I try to either “agree” with the thoughts or say “maybe, I don’t know” and come back to the present. It’s not always easy!

Definitely not easy. Kind of struggling today unfortunately. My problem is that I try to analyze the thought and ask myself why I’m having it instead of letting it just pass through. 😩

I would tell myself things like, “I’m not sure right now and that’s okay” repeatedly until I believed it really was okay and I also tried really hard to be anti labels because labels are associated with certain stereotypes and it’s all just made up and irrelevant and unhelpful. I would say things like, “maybe I like girls, maybe I don’t” instead of “maybe I’m bi, maybe I’m not”

I’ll give it a try. Another thing I struggle with is knowing that just because I accept the thoughts and say that I’m not sure does not mean I want the thought. Does that make sense?

@LuLaBelle95! Yeah I think that’s the nature of intrusive thoughts. But giving yourself some compassion for having those thoughts and focusing on accepting the thoughts versus getting to the bottom of where they come from could help your brain have less of those thoughts.

@LuLaBelle95! Think of it as accepting the presence of the thought, vs. the content. If that makes sense. :)

Sometimes putting a humorous spin on the thoughts helps me. Instead of trying to figure out my thoughts I’ll add something like “lol that would be funny! My brain is hilarious” to the end. But yeah also just recognizing and labeling them as intrusive thoughts

I will sometimes use the phrase “everything right now is ok” it helps bring me to the present

@Justmesadly I used to do that for 20 years (I’m 25) and somehow it worked. But now it doesn’t and I’m stuck in this cycle. I feel like accepting them will make them true. Fear has a hold on me

@Justmesadly It’s just so hard. Like when I have a thought of harming someone else it scares me so I say “no no” but then it sticks and I’m afraid I will do it. I was doing great a couple days ago but I guess this is a cycle

@LuLaBelle95! Yeah! Don’t ruminate if possible. For me it’s super hard to realize when I start ruminating and don’t realize until 20 mins later that I paid attention to the thought and now I’m going on and on

@Justmesadly Yea I’m hoping to get back to that place I was in. The last 2-3 days have been rough but I had a good 3-4 days in a row so I guess that’s good
