with hocd, we’re basically fighting for the answer. if you live with uncertainty, there will be no answer. just you living your life naturally :)

I struggle with this thought constantly. I fear that it will present itself and therefore I should do something about it now so it doesn’t hurt more later .

@Anonyme i honestly just focus in the moment and not think at all while with him. it sounds stupid but it’s genuinely what i do

@Gosu123 healing isn’t linear! we have setbacks and we have days that are amazing but it’s all part of the healing process

Personally speaking... my HOCD has been on and off for 2 years. I know it’s really hard to believe... Because even I don’t believe my own personal experience. But... once you start living with uncertainty, and the thoughts slowly fade... you won’t even be searching for an answer. (Hope this is not reassuring I really don’t want to cause harm to anyone:( )

Yeah but how do you build relationships if we don’t know what we re looking for

@Gosu123 That I cannot answer because I only started struggling with HOCD once I was with my boyfriend... So I already had a relationship but it is still very hard because you feel like you are lying to the one you love the most. I stayed with him because I strongly felt like he was the one. When my HOCD calmed down I knew I made the right decision because all those thoughts disappeared and I was happy. But now they have come back and feel this time is different to all the other times:(

I do have a gf that I met before ocd so I’m lucky but the people that don’t, how will they find someone if they never know what they’re looking for I don’t get it? I feel like I’m being very narrow minded here

I totally understand your question. I think,(although I’m no expert) even those who are struggling with SOOCD realize their uncertainty isn’t an issue when they aren’t in a flare up? Like during the flare up they are uncertain and when they accept the uncertainty the certainty comes back? Maybe? Lol

@Laura51585 This actually makes a lot of sense. I think once you no longer allow the fear to bother you you have a clearer mind to make a choice. Because at that point you realize that it’s not a big deal. Even as I write this my anxiety is going up because I’m thinking if I’m not afraid then I will do it. If you’re recovery that’s called a back door spike. Being afraid or unafraid of something does make it any more or less true. But it definetely helps to not be afraid. You may or may not get to a point where you don’t even care for it anymore. And that’s why we need to take the risk of uncertainty.

@Legallyocd That’s why I said I think certainty comes back after you dive into the uncertainty, your minds not clear while you have all this anxiety around and you can’t see the inner choice you want to make I ment this question on a deeper level I think
