Zoloft! It helps quiet the thoughts and lessens the anxiety when I get triggered. It helps me sit with the anxiety and helps it pass quicker.

@kls2121 if you aren’t taking anything that’s good! But the meds can be used as “crutches” but the physical therapy to heal is ERP FOR SURE

I've been on a lot of stuff, plenty of SSRIs, most of which didn't work in my case. Finally found a low dose of Clomipramine (any more than 50mg made me more volatile and agitated) I also take some Zoloft but I'm not certain if is has much effect, though I am upping my dose slowly so I should know soon if that helps or not. Apparently a lot of the more common meds didn't work for me but its different for everyone. It was definitely worth it overall, without meds I'd probably be a lot more of a mess, like, not that much better than I was when I had to get hospitalized for a month :') Through a psychiatrist you can discuss possible options. The most commonly used type of meds are SSRIs, though others may be tried too if those don't work for you. Zoloft is one of the most common, most effective and with mild side effects overall. Clomipramine is a bit less safe since in rare cases it may affect your heart some, but its been fine for me. Just gotta take a ECG before trying it and keep an eye on blood pressure/heart rate, etc. If you really have trouble and don't feel any better after trying multiple different meds, taking a gene test might help steer you to meds more likely to work for your body. I took one in 2018. Best of luck to you.

@Kls2121 Psychiatrists start you on a low dose, so that if you do experience bad side effects that outweigh any positive effects, you'll know it quickly and you will not have to deal with it for long before changing to trying something else.

@RoseFaye Being tired or feeling a bit out of it are relatively common side effects for meds for OCD but it really depends on how you specifically react to them, you may not even notice any

@RoseFaye Thats good. To know. It sucks so much having to do trial and error.

Lamictal + Buspar is my staple. Lamictal prevents me being triggered and Buspar quiets the intrusive thoughts.

I’m currently on lexapro for depression and anxiety. I only recently found out about my ocd but I’m not sure my meds is helping with it too much
- Date posted
- 4y
@Gerry But is it helping with the anxiety? Maybe you just need a stronger dose.
- Date posted
- 4y
@Kls2121 It was helping with the anxiety before. But my intrusive thoughts have made my anxiety so much worse. I’m going to be meeting with my psychiatrist this week to discuss going on a higher dose.

@Gerry Oh wow so anxiety is bsck up again. Yikes. Hoe long have you been in it. Sorry that it stopped working

@Kls2121 I’ve been on the meds since January. It was helping for a bit with my generalized anxiety but my ocd actually only started up around the same time in these last few months. For awhile my psychiatrist and I were suspicious that the meds may have triggered my ocd? But there’s really no studies or findings that show there’s a link between the two. It’s been quite confusing
- Date posted
- 4y
@Gerry Wow really? Thats the first I have ever heard of that as well. I did hear for ocd usually you need a higher dose so hopefully that helps. This stuff is so scary.
- Date posted

@Kls2121 Yeah it’s weird.. but I think I have had ocd since I was young but I didn’t know it. And I think it was triggered again during these past few months and I’ve only now been able to recognize what it is.

@Gerry That makes sense. I feel I've had since I was younger but it has only got really bad these past few years.

@Kls2121 Yeah same here. Have you started ERP?
- Date posted

@Gerry No I haven't started anything. Its so expensive.

I’m on Prozac and Luvox. It used to work for me but I’m starting to think i might need to switch
- Date posted
- 4y
Why is that? Did you have bad side effects?
- Date posted
- 4y
No Prozac is great. I’ve been on it for many many years. I’m on 80 the highest you can go. I think I might need to try something else maybe I’m becoming immune to it 😂

If you feel good i would stick with it. Your lucky it has worked for you.

I also think Prozac gave me a better outlook on life overall. Sounds silly but the grass was a little greener the stars were a little brighter. The flowers smelled better etc.

@Kls2121- do you take meds?
- Date posted
- 4y
Nope. I want to honestly. I just want to feel better. But I have been going back and forth because of the bad side effects that can happen. I know everyone is different but its scary especially with kids. If my anxiety gets worse im scared I can't take care of my kids or anything.

You can ask your physicist to do a saliva sample. She just mentioned it to me. It’s a kit that a company sends to you (Geomind??) and it tests your compatibility or something like that to certain pharmaceuticals

- Date posted

well since I had this happen again after being ok for so long I think maybe I should try something else. But actually that’s a pain in the butt come off and go on stuff. I bet you would do good with a little dose of an ssri and do erp.

I’m currently going through withdrawals from trying to switch antidepressants. They’re putting me back on Celexa. Zoloft made things worse for me. It’s hell.

What did zoloft do to you?

- 4y
Why did you get off of Celexa if it was working?
- Date posted

My OCD and depression was worsening so they were hoping Zoloft may help. But going off the Celexa and onto the Zoloft made me go through withdrawals at the same time.

Ohh wow. Im sorry. Im suprised they didn't take you off first then go onto something else.

@Vanna Thank you. Im trying. Want to get on meds but scared.
- Date posted

@Kls2121 It is scary. I have a really hard time accepting that I need medication. But just like someone with diabetes (for example) may need to be on insulin, a person like us with a chemical imbalance needs medication too. And that’s ok. I still have to remind myself of this.
- Date posted
- 4y
@Vanna So you think it was worth it?
- Date posted
- 4y
@Kls2121 At the end of the day I was very depressed. Going on my original medicine made my life easier. I still battle OCD, but at least I can get out of bed when I’m on medication. Finding the right one can be tricky. What I’ve learned from the past week is having a support system is key. Having someone that also knows you around to see if you have changes in mood is important too. I won’t lie and say it’s easy. It’s hard, but they do say nothing worth having is easy to come by. 💜

@Vanna Thats good to know even now you think its worth it. My husband knows me well so I'm sure he would tell me if I've changed. Im just hoping it doesn't change me. I know having this app and talking it over with many of you is a huge help!!

@Kls2121 If you ever need to talk, come back to the thread. After coming through the worst of the withdrawals, I know it can be tricky!
