Not at first. But I am recently starting to question it. I've been on and off for 6 years, and I have a lot of worry that I don't even know who I really am lol.

I'm starting to question it. A few years ago I started taking it and I went absolutely 💯 crazy like my anxiety and the relationship I was in was horrible and made my depression and ocd horrible. I got off of it and I got on it again and I'm noticing I'm getting back into a bad place with my OCD and anxiety..... so im just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues. I definitely think it could be making things worse for me.

@Ruth Yeah I have no clue what it does in reality though. I notice in general my anxiety is worse. Just the physical feeling of something being wrong is often there which in turn makes my ocd begin to wonder what's wrong

Birth control absolutely tanked my mental health in terms of depression. I remember when I came off it, it was like this dark cloud was gone. And mentally I just felt sharper. But I'm not sure how it impacts OCD.

Glad you feel better! I'm just curious due to seeing a pattern in previous years of taking it and just realized it.

@Ruth Sometimes it's the type of birth control too. Do you take the combination pill or progesterone only?

@kimhope @kimhope I take the combination one.

@kimhope I know ya didn't ask me but I take the combo pill. Is it worse than the progesterone only?

@Anon I've heard/read on some sites that the combo pill has more side effects. But I'm not a doctor, so take what I say with a grain of salt!

I often consider coming off of it completely. But I also just don't know 🥲

i think it definitely brings the physical symptoms a lot, like more fatigue and bodily aches, but i can’t tell. i had an ocd diagnosis before i went on the pill but i often question if i was misdiagnosed then.

I guess the big question is what do you take birth control for? If its pregnancy protection than it's hard to find alternatives as effective as the pill. I was on it because I have PCOS and my acne was getting out of control. But now I watch my weight and sugar intake + a flaxseed oil supplement and a lot of my issues associated with PCOS have come under control.

yeah exactly, like i’m anaemic and possibly have endometriosis, so although it helps massively with those, i don’t know if it interferes with my ocd as much, but then again, i’m not on any medication for my ocd

Mine was for hormonal reasons with body hair and acne. But now it is for pregnancy protection lol thats the only reason I have a hard time getting off of it. But I think the mental health is a better option.

@Ruth I started when I was 14 for acne as well! And now it's also just for pregnancy prevention. So yeah, that's why I go back and forth between staying on and dropping it.

I think so! But I stopped taking antidepressants and anxiety meds at the same time I started BC

I know it can worsen anxiety and depression I didn't know if it could also effect ocd.

Yeah I was on a combo pill too. I think the progesterone only has less side effects? But I would double check with your doctor about that or do some more research first.

I think I took the progesterone one when I was like 16. I'll definitely look into it.

I asked my doctor if it could worsen anxiety about a month ago and she said it can and I let her know that I was diagnosed with ocd and all that fun stuff and she got me on a different one but honeslty I might just get off of it.

I took vitec for my pcos and it made my OCD go from 10 to 1000. Hormonal manipulative substances are such garbage to the body and the brain... Prime example... You can find many a reddits talking about hormonal bc worsening or creating ocd...

I bought Vitex too and though it brought my periods back it made my autoimmune issues worse. As did the birth control. So far the flaxseed oil has been the best for me, least side effects, best results.

there are birth controls that help with pmdd. Which is often a disorder that intensifies all your other mood disorders. If none of the hormone ones work for you but you still need birth control, go with the copper iud! Most effective but no hormones!
