I have harm ocd and am currently on 10 mg of citalopram. It has helped me control my anxiety. I would say at my worst my anxiety gets to a level 7 instead of a level 9/10. I’m not sure if the intrusive thoughts have become less frequent due to the medicine or doing erp. So it could help you take the edge of off it so you can start the process of recovery!

Same issue cant stand my existential ocd anymore

Yes it's the only thing that could destroy so much, because a result of ocd is i live with solipsism syndrome most of the time and that's incredibly hard to deal with

have you tried meditation or any sort of mindfulness? i have existential ocd, and doing this has helped me accept that i may never know all of the answers to this beautiful life we live.

Hmm i haven't but im not sure if it's gonna help because my ocd is really severe and uncontrollable

@starboiklem it helps man, trust me. i’ve had every subtype of ocd under the sun and it’s one of the only things that’s helped me. how do you think people who had ocd in hundreds of years ago found relief? meditation and mindfulness! if they could do it so can you.

@jake Yeah? Interesting, i used to meditate when i had hocd but one day i accidentally triggered solipsism ocd and i got lost i stopped everything like i had a psychotic breakdown of sorts and im trying to come back to life so i may start meditation again.

@starboiklem if meditation didn’t work for you in the past, i have something else to offer that may help even more. look up the “wim hof method”, and watch a few videos about him. i’ve been doing it for the past week, along with meditation and yoga, and i’ve found a lot of relief. i haven’t had a psychotic break, fortunately, but i have suffered from strings of unrelenting panic attacks related to existential ocd and things related. i think you’ll find it very interesting!

Typically, bigger doses are required to see effects. You can always try and your psychiatrist will move you up if it’s not working.

Especially with OCD- the anxiety can be treated at lower doses but OCD specific symptoms usually require much higher doses

@EmWest Hmm iv heard about that, i see

@starboiklem If you are doing it in addition to therapy, though, a smaller dose might be just right for you! God Bless!

Are you on it now? What did your doctor say? I've heard (because I'm not on anything yet) lower doses can help the anxiety but the higher ones help the ocd. But im sure for some having that anxiety under control can help the ocd.

I started using 4 days ago, I don't have a doctor my mother was prescribed it for depression but i use it as well because why not I want to see if it helps, i started 10mg because im scared if side effects, like at big dosages it even affects qt intervals ( heart beat thing)

Hmm my ocd doesn't cause anxiety but mental pain and disruption and I can't feel other people's presence which hurts that's the effects of my ocd.

@starboiklem Hmmm. So is she not taking it? Because if your sharing id be careful. If you guys run out you might have to go through withdrawls. But if your just using them and it starts not working you would know you need bigger dose. How do you feel now?

@Kls2121 We have a lot of packets don't worry, right know relatively fine but in the morning i was suicidal but i know that's an effect of ssris at the start so ill wait, i have a flare in the last days but I can't tell if it's the ssris because flares happened way before too.

@starboiklem Oh ok that makes sense. As long as its not the med. I really am sorry you are going through this. I know its hard. At least you have your mom. Hoping she can help you through some of this. I know its rough on her. If it doesn't work maybe try to go to the doctors and see if there is anything else you could try.

@Kls2121 Yeah, one of the biggest problems is that my ocd theme is like hiv, not only it attacks my system but it also eliminates my defendes like support from others as my ocd tells me they are not real so im alone no support or reason to get over it, it's tricky that's why it got me so good, hocd was much easier for me i had it for 4 years but it never pushed me that hard where I cant see how to even exist.

@starboiklem 😪 just remember you are not alone. We all have something we are fighting. Stay strong. At least you are trying to do something now and fight it. Thats a great first step.
