No, actually, you CAN be “cured”. Your genetic predisposition to anxiety won’t go away, but if you don’t do compulsions, OCD will die. If you do compulsions, OCD will grow. Read what Dr. Michael J Greenburg has to say about OCD being cured. He believes you can become entirely better.

It doesn’t mean you don’t have the occasional distressing thought—EVERYONE has those—it just means that you move right past them. That’s what it means to not have OCD.

They can only be minimized and managed through therapy, medication or both

Does that mean my therapist is telling me I can be cured permanently just to reassure me?

@Seri11 Yeah sounds like it. Not sure where she is getting that from cause from everything I’ve read and from my therapist they say there is no cure yet! We can still hope for a break through from the smart people of the world.

@Seri11 That’s so bad that your therapist is telling you that. There’s no cure to OCD so you could do therapy and go into remission for 5 years and it come back.

My therapist said that nobody could get rid of ocd totally, but there was nothing to worry about. Almost everyone has kind of ocd, I mean, it's totally normal to check doors, windows etc. but if you do that so many times you should get help. You can minimize it, which means that you almost won't have ocd and it minimizing doesn't mean that you'll be still annoyed and have lots of things to check.

Also, everybody says that it can start again; it happens when you are very tired and very stressed, but it doesn't mean that it will start and will be as hard as from the beginning.. Also I don't mean that you must be afraid not to be stressed. everybody has stressful life occasionally, but if you are often like this, it's likely to start checking or something like that slightly, but it's not a problem at all because you can control your thoughts and get rid of it.

Hey friends, I hope you all are well. I just wanted to check in and ask people's experiences about being on medication. I have had OCD pretty much my whole life, just got recently diagnosed 4 months ago and my therapist recommended that I get on meds for it so I have a psychiatrist appointment set up. I'm a little apprehensive about getting on them, but I've realized that I do have some sort of chemical imbalance in my brain that plays a part in my OCD and anxiety. I would love to hear anyones experiences or words of encouragement. Thank you, I hope you all are well.

This is kind of a weird question, but I recently increased my SSRI dosage and have experienced tremendous relief. It has quieted my intrusive thoughts so much and my compulsions are no longer as all-consuming. However, I don’t want to be on this high of a dosage forever and know that medication alone shouldn’t be my only fix. I’m seeing a new psychiatrist on Wednesday and am wondering if the recent decrease in frequency of my symptoms will be a bar to my getting ocd treatment? In other words, if in this present moment I’m doing better, but up until a few days ago my compulsions were taking up pretty much every moment of my waking day, will I still be classified as having ocd? I start getting worried when I feel better that I don’t actually have ocd and just use it as a defense mechanism to avoid consequences of my actions/I’m secretly a terrible person

I understand that everyone is different but lately I have been debating on medication just because of past experiences but does anyone have any good experiences with medication that has helped them with their OCD as well as therapy or treatment? As of now I’m dealing with it by myself but it feels like it may be getting worse
