If you are rationalizing with anything your brain just randomly throws up- I consider this a compulsion. Sounds like you’re ruminating, while trying to seek mental reassurance. You may think you’re worried about this issue, but you are not actually worried. That’s not what is going on here. You just had a thought, a thought can be about ANYTHING and you simply reacted to it. Your brain said- “Oh you don’t like having that thought, you don’t like anxiety either so we need to perform a compulsion to make you get certainty and feel better! That’s all that is going on here. And the way to recover is- try to not perform a compulsion. Keep living by your values while having the anxiety.

Yea you’re right. I did so many compulsions previously on this bc this was something I was hella worried about. I looked up lawyers’ contacts, legal statutes, how to defend a frivolous lawsuit with motions and sanctions and stuff, and I just recently after lots of convincing by my family deleted it from my phone, after putting all that shit in a USB drive and giving it to my mom to hide from me just yesterday. It was the only way I could delete all these legal defense lawsuit stuff- I presume they’ll throw it away after a while idk. I went fully ballistic on this in the past.

@abx850 And all that is okay! I’m telling you that because you don’t want to judge those compulsions as a bad thing. Because if you keep judging and saying “Oh I HATE doing compulsions I should NEVER do them! Then what happens? Your brain just wants to tag that as something important in your life then you start performing compulsions on top of that to get relief and get that right “feeling” that you’re seeking. I actually don’t say compulsions are a good or bad thing. I just prefer not to do compulsions because it leads you absolutely no where. Judging has a lot to do with OCD. My best advice for you is- Do you want to spend all of your time doing those compulsions? No. Right? The 1st step is realizing those are compulsions and you do realize it. That’s half the battle! Now it’s time for you to build, create and give your energy to things that you actually value in life. If you have a pet- spend more time walking, teaching the pet new tricks, take it to obedience classes etc. If you love music- learn an instrument, learn songs, write songs, play music at a nursing home, share the music with people. If you value health- go to the gym and try to gain strength, learn to swim, start jogging, work your way to a marathon etc. Values are endless! And if you spend time on compulsions, you miss out on living life.

@outdoorman This is really beautiful, thank you so much!!! You’re absolutely awesome for sharing this! With regards to mental compulsions, like I spend a lot of time thinking what a potential lawsuit would look like in front of a judge and if they would easily filter through the bullshit and all, and like how easily I could dismiss a frivolous one. Now it’s not research, looking up stuff anymore. It’s just I’m very apprehensive and on edge , so I think about this shit a lot mentally even if I’m not physically looking stuff up.
