Hi. I’ve been reading about experience with this recently and I feel like potentially it matches with what I go through. If it’s not too difficult, would you tell me about your experience with it? And any signs that I may have this? When and how did you get diognosed?

It’s no different from any other ocd theme. The theme isn’t really important. I have about 3/4 themes that vary. Any ocd symptoms are potentially signs of ocd. I got diagnosed this year. And by the test that ocd therapist do

Okay thank you. I’m considering booking a diognostic session with the nocd therapists. But I worry that because there would be a financial incentive for them to say I have ocd that I couldn’t really trust their opinion. Does that make sense?

No it doesn’t make sense. They only treat people who have ocd and if you don’t have ocd they will recommend a therapist for you that’s not on the app. They would be wasting your time and theirs if they told you you have ocd if you don’t

I suppose there would be a little voice in the back of my head that wouldn’t know for certain if that were the case. However, I believe you to be right - it would be immoral for them to do that. Okay, well thanks so much for sharing with me, I really appreciate that. I really hope you find some peace on your journey with ocd x

Thank you. You too! You can do this. Therapy helps if you can afford it

I just started therapy, but not ocd specific so I’ll start off by just looking into if this is something I have. Take care

Yeah they will just make ocd much worse

@Justmesadly What do you mean?

@allitta They don’t know what they are doing in regards to ocd and they will make ocd 10x worse. I experienced this for 10 months

@Justmesadly Ok. Do you mean you did 10 months ERP and it didn’t help but made it worse?

@allitta No … we are talking about non ocd therapist.

@Justmesadly I see. It makes the difference, isn’t it? I used non-ocd therapists, they couldn’t diagnose or see my ocd, and technically I didn’t have any ocd help until now. It didn’t get better, it was staining my life all the way for past 25 years. Do you do OCD therapy? Does it help?

@allitta Non ocd therapist cannot diagnose ocd… that is why I said it makes a difference and to not see them because they make ocd worse. Yes ocd therapy helps

@Justmesadly Thank you. I can’t believe how much time I wasted and was in pain without understanding that I had not very obvious ocd - real event ocd which was and is ocd to various stressful life events or relationships tensions. It has been exhausting and life spoiling. I was working really hard to figure out what it was, and I knew it was anxiety related thing, but could not pin down it. I had multi year-two year long themes and obsessions. Could not understand what was wrong with me.

@allitta My therapists also did not see it. Yes, now I started OCD therapy for the first time in my life and believe it is what I need

@allitta That’s how it is for most people. It took me almost a year to figure it out

@Justmesadly Good for you! I am 44! 🤦🏻♀️

@allitta Your age doesn’t matter. People develop it and discover it at all sorts of ages. I’m almost 25

@Justmesadly I think my OCD started at 22-23 years old. It just has been plenty of suffering from OCD without knowing what it was. 20 years until the diagnosis, a lot of lost time

For a while I've been struggling more with the contamination side of OCD, but before that, for a long time, it was POCD and things like thinking I'm a bad person. It was debilitating. And I moved on from it somehow, just left it behind. Until today, when even a small thing hit me with it again. It's not as bad as it might have been a year or two ago, but it just took me back to the awful pain of thinking I'm a creep. Even now, I'm convincing myself that it's real and not OCD. And it hurts so much that I can't tell. I know the pain each subtype brings isn't even comparable, but POCD and thoughts relating to it are by far the worst thing I've experienced. I honestly think I would rather wash my hands raw than go through POCD to the extent I used to. I would do anything to live with neither. Sorry this was just a bit of a vent, but I think it's important to talk about this kind of thing to people who understand. Whatever subtype you're going through, I'm sending you strength and comfort to get through it 💜💜.

I hope everyone is doing well today, and for those of you who are struggling my thoughts and prayers are with you. Just know your moment of peace is coming soon. I think it’s important that we post / come on here every now and again even when we are not in a moment of pure panic and fear. Remember that we are not our thoughts as hard as it is to understand. Remember that OCD makes it feel “real” and that OCD will always make us think the most inappropriate things and the most inappropriate times. Remember that all humans, have thoughts that come and go and as hard as it can be to understand you are not alone in your thoughts that feel so unique. For me I get a lot of anxiety from thoughts I used to have , which of course makes them return in full throttle. The more I push them away the more they come back. And those thought makes new connections to those things in my life I value. OCD is a pain but it’s important that as much as you hate it you learn to be compassionate and understanding that it’s there to “help” you no matter how bad it does it job sometimes. Stay strong everyone
