Hey Ashly! I just went through my therapy and it has helped so incredibly much... don't be nervous about calling everyone through NOCD is incredibly nice and helpful. Just call and tell them you want to schedule an appointment with a therapist and I'm sure they will guide you through it :)

Bonjour! Like what was mentioned before don’t be afraid of reaching out for help! OCD isn’t easy and sometimes we need that little extra guidance and help in the battle!

Hello, when you book, a licensed therapist will ask you guiding questions that will help you to see the help that you need.

Hi! When you call you just tell them you were recently diagnosed with OCD and are looking for help/treatment. They might ask what type of treatment you’re looking for (for example I did and intensive outpatient vs a regular outpatient) and maybe a couple screening questions to assess who they should have you meet with, but they’ll probably just figure out a time and set you up for an initial consultation. A very important thing to keep in mind when searching for a therapist is to make sure whoever you are meeting with specializes in or is highly familiar with treating OCD. You won’t get the help you need from just any therapist. If you need help finding someone in your area, there’s a search engine on the IOCDF’s website. I wish you the best of luck!

Thank yall for this. I do have a question? Before talking to a therapist did yall read books about ocd?

I didn’t. I did take an AP psych course when I was in high school so I knew the basics from back then. That and my dad also has OCD so I was familiar with what is OCD and what isn’t behavior-wise. Your therapist might recommend a specific book that they think is helpful. Mine had me read a couple passages from one when I was in IOP. I don’t remember what it was called though.

No book but did do a lot of research on the subject and types online. Really helpful to have the knowledge.

17f So I don't have an official diagnosis, but I know I have it, I struggle with it since I was 4, I went through like almost every theme like contamination, symmetry, checking, existential, health anxiety, false memory, moral ocd, sexual ocds, and also a therapist told me I have it (another one said I have generalized anxiety disorder but idk like I was talking about textbook ocd to her) I don't have a therapist now therapy is not working out well for me but I was hoping to maybe get medication For me the absolute hell is POCD and real event ocd. I genuinely don't know how do I start. I also think I will replace POCD with harm ocd cause well I'm to scared to talk about POCD. But what do I even say like do I come in and talk about more obvious ocd stuff I experience and then randomly jump to POCD, seems like a crazy jump idk... Also I thought it will be in the evening and I will have time to prepare but it's in and hour and a half I'm terrified Anyone? Help? How do I start what do I say I'm so scared

Hey everyone I am new here. I had my third session here and I am quite confused — one of my therapist told me that what I was talking about was not about ocd and quickly shut me down. I am not going to lie when he said that I felt really bad and was too embarrassed to ask him if our conversations are exclusively about ocd. Are they? Thx guys 💕💕💕

Hi! I have just recently been diagnosed with OCD and it’s come as kind of a shocker to me. My friends aren’t that surprised (most of them are psych majors lol) but my parents/family are very skeptical and have been telling me that it’s just anxiety. I was diagnosed with general anxiety disorder and severe depression when I was 14. I’ve had hydroxyzine NPR since then and I’ve tried lexapro and propanalyl (both made me feel like i was going crazy) and then was misdiagnosed as having bipolar 1 (hypomania). I finally have found a therapist that specializes in OCD and we did the assessment and concluded that my anxiety/depression has stemmed from it. Most likely I have experienced my OCD symptoms since I was 11 (when my anxiety first appeared) and I am now 21. I mostly have obsessions, but I do have a few compulsions. Most of them relate to my personal space or social settings. I have a good amount of driving anxiety as well and I have a set route for every single place that I drive to regularly. I have a set morning routine that I am only comfortable with being disturbed when I have had ample time to prepare myself for a change. This new diagnosis and learning what it is and what the different types are has kind of uprooted my social life and drastically decreased my mental health. I guess I’m here to try to find some balance and some people who actually understand what it’s like to feel like there’s something wrong with your brain and no way to “fix” it. I’ve tried talking to my friends/bf/family and none of them truly understand or could even begin to imagine what it’s like inside my head. I’m just trying to find my bearings and feel the ground under my feet, but I don’t exactly know where to start.
