Dwelling on a problem or situation, trying to figure it out and "solve" it :)

It sucks how I do it but don't even know what its called. What ocd do you have?

@LinCoN Yeah! On bad days I'll ruminate for hours. I have contamination and real event ocd. That last one causes me to dwell on past mistakes, making me feel immense guilt and self blame. No fun :(

@washie Yes I experiemce real event ocd too. Its bad when I have conflict wuth someone else then I start overthinking

@LinCoN That's when I listen to Spotify or watch something on YouTube! Distract yourself and give it minimal attention. If you manage to do this over and over, you'll see that the event starts losing importance. (Easier said than done, I know) :)

@washie Man I miss the girl bro. I got her but now she's gone I've never loved anyone since her. And its been more than two years I just want her back. I don't want noone else but her

@LinCoN I'd do so much for this girl so why can't her and I just give it another try :(. If only she knew how I felt about her rn. I guess pride wont let me.

@LinCoN Oh :( That's tough. Did she break up with you or the other way? Are you still in contact with her? Cause maybe if you told her this you'd get a response that would give you more clarity and peace of mind.

@washie Don't let pride stop you. If you're that much in love and you're still in contact, you've got nothing to lose by telling her :)

@washie I don't think she still want me. She look like shes moved on.

@washie I broke up with her after finding out how she felt about the whole thing. The only thing I wanted mire than her was seeing her happy. Even if shes happy without me.

@LinCoN Did she find someone else? The way I see it is that it's better to be open and get a no, than to regret later that you never told her. But you have to make that decision yourself :) If she's moved on, at least you know and can start heal from that. Love can be so complicated sometimes. :/

@washie Aww :( I hope it works out! And who knows, maybe she misses you too!

@washie Yeah I heard you miss 100 per cent of the shots you don't take. It is complicated and its ben two years. If i reach out ill look like a loser but truth is i just have a big heart

@washie I doubt. Imma just try to move on. I really did like her though. I wouldnt mind starting a family with her. But i guess i gotta move on. Hm, imagibe that washie, her being my wife.

@LinCoN 2 years isn't all that. Lots of people break up and get back together. You'd definitely not look like a loser for telling her, I at least wouldn't think that at all. You never know until you try :) And as I said, if it doesn't work out then it's good to know that too. Worst part is not knowing

I ruminated too much this morning and got distressing mental images (and confirmation) which sent me spiraling again. How do I stop thinking about this and how do I get back to myself? I feel destroyed.

I've been doing well the past month in cutting down on compulsions and have been feeling better however, last night I had a set back that carried on into today. I had gotten very poor sleep (4ish hours) and then something triggered my memory. I think with the sudden anxiety spike and lack of sleep I didn't have the strength to ignore my compulsions. Last night and today I've realised I've gone back into rumination and mentally reviewing the event excessively again and comparing my situation to other people's, but most of the times that I start going down these rabbit holes I don't even realise I'm doing it? Also been fixating a bit on the fear that I've ruined my progress and that I will fall back into the deep end of it all again, that I have done so much work getting myself out of, although trying my best to not be too discouraged. Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with rumination more specifically?

I've been told it's impossible to "push intrusive thoughts away", but also that rumination is a compulsion. What is rumination vs. overthinking? And how do I stop ruminating properly and healthfully?
