I feel you! I am in a relationship but honestly if my libido were to go down due to side effects of medication my partner wouldn’t really be bothered and would totally understand. I guess I’m more worried about other side effects like feeling numb or just generally feeling like not myself, but honestly the torture I’ve experienced from OCD has made me feel less like myself than I’ve ever felt so I guess nothing can really be worse 😂

I strongly urge you to do erp. The concepts are basic. List out your obsessions, order them least to greatest in distressing you. Pick something from the least to start with. Do an exposure... a script or something physical depending on what it is. Let the anxiety come and notice it increase and then Decrease. Don't do a compulsion to Decrease it. And do it every day. It's hard work but it will give you freedom!

Thank you!! I’ve been thinking about doing ERP with an NOCD specialist but I just got a new puppy and honestly I don’t really have any alone time at home because I have to always keep eyes on her, which is why I’m going to therapy in person. But I think I could figure it out!

Are you doing talk therapy?

I’m doing CBT, so yes I think? She basically just listens to what’s going on for me and then suggests how I need to stop the compulsions and also gives me “distress tolerance techniques” aka breathing and grounding techniques but I feel like I’m not making any concrete progress with my behaviors

@monarda So talk therapy is actually not effective for ocd. Your basically just paying someone to do what you do in your own head every day. Some cbt is used in all forms of therapy

Thank you!! Do you feel open to sharing what your side effects have been? That’s one of the things I worry most about

talk therapy actually makes ocd worse because basically you're professionally ruminating. I found that out the hard way

Id reccomend only taking your dose, I had a bad like attack or something and decided to just get high off of zoloft and now I just wish I was high again because my ocd was gone and my normal dose doesn't work anymore

I take 10mg of prozac. It works well for me. But atm I might need to up the dose bc I think it's not as effective as before. It makes it so I don't care as much with the intrusive thoughts so I don't do a compulsion. Also they're nowhere near as distressing it feels like.

For those who have had success with medication for OCD/anxiety, how is your life different now compared to before starting medication?

I understand that everyone is different but lately I have been debating on medication just because of past experiences but does anyone have any good experiences with medication that has helped them with their OCD as well as therapy or treatment? As of now I’m dealing with it by myself but it feels like it may be getting worse

Has anyone had success treating their OCD without medication and solely ERP or non-medicinal methods. I have pretty severe OCD and just about every sub-type, but I’ve been on various meds (SSRI & SNRIs) for going on 8 years and have never found one that truly relieves me of symptoms. I’m looking to see if it’s worth continuing with the side effects I experience (mostly mild) or if there are alternatives that could work for me. Low key tired of constantly changing meds in an attempt to find something that works when maybe medicine isn’t the route for me…
