I didn’t realize I had anxiety or OCD because I’d had it since childhood and just assumed everyone thought the way I did. One day I said something that I thought nothing of and my husband said “you know not everything thinks that way, right?” Not everyone automatically goes to the worst case scenario. That little exchange made me realize my thoughts were above and beyond the “Normal” threshold. I also realized I had been having panic attacks for years and just didn’t know what they were. I thought everyone had them when they worried.

I can relate. I’ve just thought this was normal for the past 20 years. I thought crippling intrusive thoughts were just a fact of life (they do happen to everyone, but not to the degree of disorder) and that obsessive behaviors was just a quirk!

My boyfriend had known that I was struggling with OCD tendencies for a while, so he knew something was up when he saw those things naturally come up. Because they got worse, I told him I was going to therapy and then told him after one appointment that I got diagnosed with clinical OCD. He was super cool about it and neither of us really knew what OCD was all about, but that’s how he found out! And whenever new stuff comes up I just kinda bring it up haha

It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done LMAO mine is ROCD and harm OCD so I really had to buckle down and explain it to her. It honestly gave me some good exposure! It’s less scary to talk about now that I’ve talked about it a few times.

Glad you opened up and shared! Thank you, from one ROCD to another.

My boyfriend actually had heard of ROCD through one of our friends with OCD and suggested to me that I may have it. I got diagnosed a month later and now we’re engaged. If it’s the right person, a diagnosis of mental illness won’t mean anything to them at all in terms of how they feel about you.

my boyfriend and i were friends for years before we got together. i remember telling him as a friend - i have ocd and this is what ocd actually is versus what the media tells you. he was very understanding, but i made sure to remind him when we started dating that i had it. It’s been over 2 years now of us being together, and for someone that doesn’t have OCD, he is so understanding, and he wants to become more educated as time goes on. I’m very blessed to have him
