It’s not “I either have OCD or I’m a pedo.” Someone could have both OCD and pedophilia. I know that might be triggering to read, but it’s important because it means you should stick with the OCD treatment even in the moments when you believe you may actually have pedophilia. No matter what, it’s important to treat the OCD. We can’t choose our thoughts or feelings, we can only choose our actions. Not all pedophiles molest children, and not all child molesters are pedophiles. It sounds like you have some doubt around whether or not you have pedophilia. You said “I’m now avoiding therapy because I felt like they confirmed I’m a pedo.” If you were 100% that you were a pedophile, it wouldn’t matter whether or not they confirmed it in therapy: you wouldn’t need confirmation because you would already know it was true. It sounds like that instead of 100% believing your fears, you feel 100% afraid of your fears. Did I get that right? Open up to your therapist about your fears if you can. You can even ask them if they would continue to work with someone who actually had pedophilia; it may help you feel comfortable talking about your thoughts and fears.

@Just Breathe ❤️ I understand! Remember, compulsions will not help you find the answer. If they could, you would have figured it out by now. If the self-assurance message “it’s ok, it’s only OCD, I have nothing to be afraid of” worked, you would be free of the fear by now. The only way out is through; facing the uncertainty without compulsions. Be kind to yourself and breathe. It gets better.
