Yes. My themes have changed many times through the years. I have had years where things aren't that bad. But then a new theme starts. I have had OCD since I was 8, but I didn't know until last month. I was diagnosed at 45.

That is so heartbreaking you were only diagnosed recently. I have had ocd since I was 10 and was diagnosed when i was 30. A few weeks ago i forgot to take my tablets when i went away and missed a couple of doses....i wasnt worried because i thought there was nothing i could get ocd about...how wrong was i!? X

Definitely. I go about a year or so in between then if I get stressed by any little thing it comes back in a huge wave x

Definitely, I had a period where I had only one compulsion and it was a time one so my parents never noticed it so they thought that it went away even though it came back later.

I feel like in some ways receiving a diagnosis for OCD has in some ways made things worse. I’ve always had what I called “phases” throughout life, which I now know were ocd episodes, but I didn’t really make too much of them and even if it was over several long difficult months, they’d always seem to kind of just pass. Recently I’ve begun my worse flare up in the last few years and now that I’m older I seemed professional help which led to my diagnosis. This all sounds great of course but I can’t actually afford therapy right now so I kinda just have the diagnosis but not the support so now that I realize these phases are actually this incurable mental illness I just feel like I’ve lost all hope that I’ll ever be happy and I feel like I basically obsess about obsessing at this point and it just sucks. Has anyone else had this or a similar experience?

Sometimes I notice my intrusive thoughts cause me to spiral and sometimes not. I've been practicing ERP for quite a while so it's a bit easier for me to not spiral. But I wonder why that happens. Does anyone else have it? Also I'm on medication idk if that plays a role.
