As for best experience are you saying it feels kind of weird too feel better after so long of not haha ?

Exactly... like "wait, other people feel sort of like *this* most of the time? No wonder those lucky bastards dont understand us" jkjk But in all seriousness, my ideal results are basically when my brain is able to get out of its own way. Feeling better is a definite victory, but also weird to me because most of the meds I've taken (except for ADHD) build up over time. So you don't wake up one day and everything seems different, it's more like feeling better sneaks up on you when you're not looking 😅

@JoyousEffort This is actually really exciting! Thankyou for that, I like the idea that it may take time but it is possible too feel better. Are you pretty much unbothered by your ocd these days?

@Joey92 Oh, it's definitely demanding all my attention lately 😅 ...the tide comes in, the tide goes back out haha 🌊🧠 But I'm more able to look back now and see the changes I've already gone through. I just don't really go in for the adversarial descriptions of the whole thing... I don't see myself as "fighting" my OCD or trying to "conquer" it... I've managed to start seeing it as a teaching tool, because it's usually most disruptive in whatever areas of my life are most important to me at the time.

The best med (or combo) is different for everyone so the willingness to try a few different kinds is important. You and your doc might nail it on the first try, or you might need to go through more than one. For example, a lot of people swear by Prozac but it actually gave me intrusive thoughts (I don't normally experience them with my type of OCD). I got four days into a two-week trial and was like nooooope. But I'm not going to tell you it's garbage, because it might be life-changing with your particular brain chemistry. I suppose my best medication experiences make me feel a little suspicious, because it feels like things are just working better in general... that can't be the meds, right? Haha

So the info to tell your doctor about that will help you be most successful are things like: 🧠 Your symptoms - seems obvious, but you want to make sure you give more detail than "I have OCD"... include your plan to combine it with therapy, and maybe describe ERP to the doc if they're not familiar with it (so they understand what your goals are, and how meds might support them) 🗓 Whether you're good or not-so-good at remembering to take pills every day (some types of meds are more forgiving of this than others) 🌙 Your current sleep habits (affects your metabolism and what time of day you might want to take your dose, plus some meds help with this if you have trouble sleeping) 🙃 Side effects you are/aren't ok with, since that may affect their recommendation Good luck!

At this point I feel like I need to get on something ASAP. I know that therapy is a long road and hard work and I am totally down to do it but in the short term (I just started this journey) I think I need pharmaceutical help. Some of the people closest to me agree. I have never been on meds before and it's scary AF but the road I am going down is scarier. Advice?

I understand that everyone is different but lately I have been debating on medication just because of past experiences but does anyone have any good experiences with medication that has helped them with their OCD as well as therapy or treatment? As of now I’m dealing with it by myself but it feels like it may be getting worse
