Pls note I am not a doctor of any sort but the timeframes for full efficacy of any medication is 10-12 weeks and usually is given at higher doses. I don’t know your specific situation but you might try to hold off another 6 weeks. As far as the type of meds. Zoloft is an SSRI. There are other classes of meds also. SNRIs are another effective class. I personally have been on Effexor and been on it for 20 years. It has completely took all OCD symptoms away in the past. The problem is when I got off the OCD came back and that’s where I am now trying to get everything straightened back out. So if u find a med that works STAY ON IT INDEFINITELY!!!

@Maybe,MaybeNot I used to take 250mg of Zoloft and it helped me a lot, eventually I got down to 100mg of Zoloft over time, and then this year I went cold turkey. (which was kind of a bad choice but there were multiple reasons in why I did) Zoloft was always a good medication for me during all the years that I took it, so I definitely recommend it, but then again everyone is different so I think you should do whatever is best for you, and hopefully in time you can find what is best for you. :) I don't think I gave much help, but I'm just glad to give any information that I can to anyone who needs it. :)

@Drew777 Thank you! Do you think maybe I should give it more time to work?

@Maybe,MaybeNot Yeah, I'd definitely say give it at least a little bit more time, maybe 2-3 more months possibly? But it's honestly your choice in how you proceed. I just know that when I first started taking Zoloft it honestly took about 4 or 5 months before I really started noticing it making a big difference in helping me with my OCD. It just takes time for the body to adjust properly to all the different things the medication is doing in the bodies system I think. I'm not a professional by any means, lol, but I just know that was some of my experience with Zoloft. I took Zoloft for 8 or 9 years, so I've definitely had a decent bit of experience with it, but only Zoloft, so I know nothing about any other medications and how they work, lol. Hope I could be of some help friend! Sorry for the late reply! I hope you're having a wonderful day though Maybe,MaybeNot!

Hi everyone, I’m 23 and have been on Zoloft since I was 16. For the past couple months I’ve been having panic attacks more and I’m sick of feeling like a zombie everyday. My boyfriend said I’m very sad and unhappy then when I first met him 2 years ago…. He thinks it’s the medicine. Throughout the years I have upped and lowered my medication, but now, I feel as though it’s not helping. Either it was too much where I didn’t feel emotions at all like very scary stuff or it wasn’t enough to help me. I was given 5mg of Lexapro to try…. I’m scared to take it. All I know is how Zoloft is. I don’t want to go crazy on it, be allergic to it, etc. I feel like I’m going to trip myself out when I take it and not actually feel the difference. I could really use some positive feedback I really just want to be a normal human😭

Hi everyone, I’m new to the community. I was diagnosed with OCD just a couple of months ago and have been doing some reading and other research to try and understand the disorder. With this, I have been actively seeing a great therapist who has been helpful to build tools to deal with my intrusive thoughts ( contamination OCD is my worst theme). Do help learn to deal with the compulsions, I start on Sertraline or “Zoloft” I believe since November 2024. Currently I’m on 50mg and have been doing this for just over a month. My question for those who are also taking Sertraline and it has been successful, how do you know it has really provided a benefit and how long did it take to get there? I sometimes feel the medication works, and sometimes I feel it doesn’t (maybe that’s my OCD trying to mess with things). Thanks!

Hello last year I had gone thru a very rough time In my life where I needed to be put on Zoloft 50mg around march 2024. I was diagnosed with anxiety, depression and OCD. Ive been suffering from OCD since I was like 11 and depression since I was 19, but I never sought help until last year Im 27 because I knew I needed it to help me get thru life. I was on 3 months on Zoloft and I went to a trip to Miami which honestly helped me so much, I honestly attribute that trip to Miami in healing me more than the Zoloft it self. I met my current girlfriend there. After coming back I felt like a new person. I still kept taking the Zoloft 50mg until late April (2025) this year when I decided to tapper down to 25mg by my self without a doc recommendation, I didn’t feel anything during the month of may this year until like may 30th when I woke up in a panic and I felt like I was back at square 1 before I started Zoloft. Mind you ive been thru some life changes, I recently graduated RN school and my gf moved in with me. Ever since the end of may I’ve been very anxious, my OCD is on high gear and my depression too. I went back up to 50mg I’m seeing a new doc, my questions is has anyone gone thru a similar situation? If so what helped you and how long did it take you to stabilize ?
