If you aren't willing to do what it takes to get better, there is no point in continuing. But just know that every time you give into a compulsion you are increasing the strength and number of your intrusive thoughts and making your OCD worse. Only you can decide of you are ready to start treatment. ERP is crazy hard and uncomfortable. But it works. It has been life changing for me.

I don’t do them either lol 😆 my therapist says nothing. I do them while in therapy with him 1 hours so it’s enough 🤷🏼♀️

I don't agree. With ERP, you get out of it what you put into it. If you do it half heartedly you won't get much benefit. You will get much more benefit if you really commit and give it 100%

Very irresponsible therapist

Why do you think so?

I don't think its fair to blame the therapist. If the patient isn't willing to put forth the time and hard work required to get better, that isn't the therapist's fault.

@Lms526 the therapist isn't there to make you get better they are there for support no matter how much healing you do. nobody has to heal or get better and they still deserve support

@juicy I agree with the first part. But if the patient doesn't want to get better, they are not doing anything but wasting the therapist's time and keep the therapist from seeing someone who does want to improve and get better.

@Lms526 that's a really really upsetting mindset- therapy has caused me so much harm and trauma over my life and caused WAY more harm to people more oppressed than I. There are way better options for humanity and in America that needs to be the goal to strive for. wasting the therapists time? they are still getting money - the therapist is wasting their own time by not realizing how harmful and irresponsible they are. Ppl are hurting. I don't agree with therapy and honestly will never really suggest that for ppl because there are terrible consequences and way better solutions. Please learn more about colonization, western mindsets, capitalism, white supremacy - it changed my life to learn what ive learned so far and there is still so much out there. please

@juicy I totally get it. I have been hurt by therapists in the past as well. I'm not a big believer in therapy either. Prior to knowing I had OCD, I did about 10 years of talk therapy, but never made any progress even though I did everything I was supposed to. I agree with you. When it comes to OCD, talk therapy does more harm than good. That is why it is so important to get a therapist that understands OCD and specializes in ERP. ERP is a very different kind of therapy. It has been proven to work for OCD. ERP is not easy or fun, but it works. It has helped me so much. I think its a mistake to say that just because you had some bad experiences. Getting the right treatment for the right disorder can make all the difference. I have made more progress in 2 months with my NOCD therapist than I did in years of talk therapy.

So having not even made headway yet with sessions with my latest therapist (not NOCD) she has just left me hanging saying I’ve got too anxious and I need to increase my Remeron before she continues with me and won’t even give me a date to start again……… I don’t really want to increase my meds as it was what she was saying to me in therapy that upset me, or is it really supposed to get worse before it gets better? My career that I worked so hard for is literally hanging by a thread and her doing this to me means I have to stay off work longer and I’m just really upset by her actions and the potential knock on effects of this 😢

What are some things that you did/found helpful when you started going down in the number of sessions? I find that I am having a hard time accepting that I am at the point/ have the skills where I don't need sessions as frequently.

My ocd is very cyclic so its themes change monthly, and they can feel so so inappropriate and scary to discuss. I’d love to start therapy and feel ready but my only concern is because my intrusive thoughts come in waves, I can have periods where I feel amazing and don’t experience what I’m experiencing now so what if that’s the case when I start? Any advice would be appreciated. It makes me feel like I’m a fake or that It isn’t bad enough to receive help.
