It’s a mental illness and you can’t cure any mental illness. All you do is heal and manage it.

It means nothing can make OCD permanently go away. Treatment helps to manage it, but even with treatment it can be present or come back. Mine is currently getting worse after months of it being almost non existent.

I think it’s more of something you have to manage. Ocd definitely will change you in a way for better or worse. A lot of things OCD has opened my mind to that I wouldn’t have realized otherwise. We all respond to stress in different ways so all we can do is take care of our self’s and live a healthy life.

I disagree with the concept that it can’t be cured. I mean cured probably isn’t the right word because it has a certain connotation. There is no magic pill one can take and just all of a sudden it’s gone forever. It’s a combination of therapy/ERP, medicine, changing your black and white thinking, and sitting with feelings. But it can certainly go away and not go back as long as you don’t go back to doing compulsions and keep up with these changes.

Hello everyone. I often get the feeling that I will go crazy or in a state of permanent suffering. The thought is very persistent and I think is OCD repeating that disturbing thought. If anyone feels the same way. What do you do about it?

The thought of ocd being long-term is scaring me pretty bad. My therapist told me in our first visit last week that it will always come back and it triggered me. I know everyone says it’s manageable, but I keep having the thought that I won’t be able to handle it the rest of my life and I will want to suic. myself. I am terrified :(

Another way to describe it is a loss of ability to let uncomfortable thoughts flow through our minds. It's like a fire alarm going off in our heads and an urgency to work out what these thoughts mean and what we can do about them and it's the exact reason why going to talk therapy is the worst thing that someone with OCD can do.
