I had the exact same worries before getting my wisdom teeth out! It ended up going completely fine, and I didn’t end up doing it saying anything stupid or related to my obsessions. I recommend talking to your dentist/surgeon about your worries, and they can talk to you about the process and the anaesthesia. From what I understand, those viral videos of people being loopy are pretty rare/exaggerated.

I have this same fear and it’s stressing me out

I had mine out and it wasn’t a big deal other than the pain. I didn’t say or do anything bad except, for some reason, I only wanted to open one eye so the dentist nicknamed me Pirate 😂 The worst pain I’ve had was my tonsil removal. Even then, I didn’t say or do anything weird. Even if I did, they’ve heard crazy shit and don’t think much of it— per my therapist because I was worried at first too.

I have this too. Just accept the uncertainty and embrace your fear of it all. You'll think like this until you actually do it, once you do it, it's done. You'll be fine, I promise and I can gaurentee you won't come out with anything inappropriate and worse case scenario, you do, it's not the end of the world.

I have this fear too. But you can ask to not be put to sleep. I told my dentist and they were like oh no big deal. Because people with anxiety and ocd hate losing control so we don’t want to be put to sleep. But for the most part only the US puts people to sleep for wisdom teeth.

I’m in Australia and I got out fully under; it really depends on the procedure being done. Even if you do get put fully under, though, it’s not necessarily likely that you’ll wake up loopy or “out of control.” I woke up feeling fine, and did not experience any looping as at all.

@Oth Oh weird I’ve talked to tons of people and everyone has said only America puts people to sleep. I lived abroad and they were in shock when I told them we put people to sleep and give them opioids for pain after. I’ve never heard of someone not waking up loopy and in histerics while being drugged !🤷🏻♀️

@Justmesadly This is anecdotal, but I seem to remember someone mentioning to me that the drugs used in the US do tend to make people more loopy? Not sure of the truth of that, but it aligns with my personal experience and the experiences of people I’ve spoken to. I think I got put fully under because they needed to cut into some bone, but yeah it really varies in relation to what your teeth are like

@Oth I was told they can do it no matter what. You can’t be put to sleep with those drugs when you’re pregnant , my friend got hers out last year that were impacted while awake. They still numb you,you can just hear it all! I have no clue about the drug, I’m not in the medical field. It would be weird to me if anesthesia came in different forms but I’ve got know clue. I just recently heard of a dentist giving a patient roofies to put them to sleep… so who knows
