Possibly seeing a doctor for the area that is bothering you wouldn’t be a bad idea? I had one almost in the same spot and they recommended an ointment to place on it.

That’s what my mom was thinking. I know that potentially it can’t be fixed but it may help somewhat? It’s not a scar because scar cream won’t heal it. It’s not even a worry about health really it’s just that it’s there and for some reason my ocd is telling me it’s wrong and I can’t shake it. I’ve read perfectionism ocd “treatment” is more so about sitting with the feeling of things not being perfect. So I guess I have to keep working on that. I just wanted to talk to someone so I didn’t do anything irrational.

I know we aren’t supposed to provide reassurance but I have these too. Don’t worry, I believe this is normal. We are all human.

It’s good to know other people have them, I don’t think it’s reassuring? Although I’m the one posting so I can’t really make that call haha. Knowing other people have them just sorta makes me realize others have had this problem and gotten over it.

@applehat I just have to work on flaws being a part of the human body. No one has a spotless body I guess? I’m just trying to piece together why the fact it’s on my knuckle is making it much worse?

@applehat Maybe because you can see it a lot more but yeah try to just accept it. We’re all imperfect humans :)

@OCDGuy123 Yeah it’s probably because I see it more that it’s amplifying the feelings. I got over the other one much easier because my sleeves hide it. Gosh perfection ocd sucks 😅 I wish the solution was easier than sitting with the idea. But who said ocd was easy right? I really appreciate people taking with me because it’s calming me down and sorta helping the irrational

Seeking reassurance doesn’t help you/your OCD.

I don’t need reassurance I need someone to tell me that i shouldn’t cut my hand. Or tell me where to direct the energy so I don’t harm myself.

@applehat I need someone to tell me a way to handle a spot on my hand without harming my body

I am familiar with the self-harm impulses, though I have them for different reasons. I would suggest that you don’t try to solve the problem in anyway. For one, to do so is just a different manifestation of the compulsion. Secondly, the search for solutions is rumination and is making things harder. If you are determined to fulfill the compulsion, I think the advice of asking a doctor about how to remove it is probably the wisest. But I would urge you to not gratify that compulsion. The spot may very well be temporary, but the anxiety most definitely is— if you allow it to come down naturally.

Thank you for this. I needed that. I figured letting go was the healthiest but I wasn’t sure how to approach it because of the harm part. I’ve stopped crying at least. Thanks for giving me a method to go about handling this without “fixing” it

It’s so small I’m so mad that it’s bothering me so much

Perhaps I worded this wrong, I don’t need reassurance or comfort. I need ideas to cope so I don’t act on my impulses.

That spot isn’t even noticeable! I wouldn’t get a tattoo that would create a bigger problem cuz you might not like tattoo! And harming yourself wouldn’t get rid of it! Can you sit with the anxiety and rmr everyone has imperfections on their body! I have a bazillion stretch marks!

I appreciate the comment, but it’s not big to you. Ocd makes it big to me. Like how ocd makes small things big. I have stretch marks too but ocd is focusing on this.

@applehat That’s very true ocd makes everything hard! But from an outsiders perspective I wouldn’t even notice it! If im fixated on something I try to sit with the anxiety and workout to get my mind off of it! Usually with time I feel better.

@Ocdlady89 I know other people don’t notice it, I guess my big question at the moment is “is a distraction just running from my discomfort of imperfections?” I can take my mind off of it for short times, I wish I could do it long term. As I mentioned in another comment I’ve sorta done it before with another spot so that gives me some hope I can shake the feeling? I really appreciate talking people here it’s distracting me from doing anything harmful.
