Hi Anonymous. OCD can show it's ugly head in many ways. I suspect the fear is that you will never return to an earlier state in which you didn't focus on breathing or blinking. I describe these thoughts as "what ifs." They suggest fear of a dreaded outcome. OCD wants us to believe that the worst case scenario will occur. This simply is not true.

It was a game changer here too. I couldn't stop controlling my breathing. When I let go of the worry, It then became like a full-time meditation.

The problem is not manual blinking of breathing, but being afraid of those sensations. I.e, being afraid of being aware. Remember: OCD's issue is much more focused on behavior than on cognition. It's not about what you think, but how you react to it. If you don't fear your sensorimotor OCD, you can quickly turn it into a mindfulness experience, and even reduce your anxiety to a much lower level than before.

Can i ask you a question about breathing ocd pls? I do have it and i can not sleep at all! Is that all about the fear related to sleep if I'm not mistaken

@Mohamed.Elmsh Conscious breathing is actually a form of meditation. When I first had this fear, I couldn't sleep at all. I was hyperventilating. But when you accept it, and don't try to push away that conscious breathing, you will feel deeply relaxed.

@Ana741 The same. Try to focus on these functions even more. The problem is not the action, but how you respond to it. I had a severe OCD episode once with swallowing. I was constantly afraid I was gonna choke even when swallowing my saliva. So I would spend the entire day swallowing manually and in purpose, every 10 or 20 seconds. My mouth was completely dry, making it easier to choke. Eventually, when I would indeed choke, I would " confirm " my fear and swallow even more. That lasted 4 months or so. Now I don't care at all about that, even when I get conscious of my swallowing.

@rodrigog Oh I'm so happy for you! How did you get rid of this fear? Do you sleep well now and how? Thank you

@Mohamed.Elmsh I still struggle with sleep anxiety, but that sensorimotor OCD doesn't bother me at all anymore. In fact, being aware of my breath has become a form of powerful meditation.

@Mohamed.Elmsh That's a form of sleep anxiety that I'm struggling with too. I'm basically having 7 or 8 nights of well slept nights, followed by a sleepless nights. Then the loops starts in again. What is causing your insomnia? What thoughts pop up?

@Mohamed.Elmsh I struggle with this fear too. I'm basically on a loop like I have a thought =I worry about not getting to sleep at night due to that thought = Either I don't sleep and get severely anxious until the next time I sleep, or I sleep and have the anxiety decreasing day by day until the next worrisome thought. So far, I ranged from dying in sleep, being hyper aware about the last second I'm awake, being conscious about my breathing, being abducted by Aliens, being buried alive, being punished by an Artificial Intelligence from the future with insomnia, being punished by God with insomnia and many others.

PLEASEEE READ!! I know this sounds ridiculous but lately Iβve been soo hyperfocused on my breathing. I feel like Iβm not breathing right/properly, itβs hard to explain.. it just feels wrong or like my breathing pattern is wrong. How thatβs possible? I have no clue. Iβve had this all day. Has anyone ever experienced this?? My doctor keeps saying anxiety but I just feel like something isnβt right.

Hey everyone, I've been struggling with severe obsession over my blinking for more than a month now (&24/7), fearing I will never stop thinking about it. It came out of nowhere while I was walking (can OCD come like this without a reason ?). I'm starting to take Fluoxetine. I'm scared it won't help with the "hyperawerness". Does someone have a similar experience and can help me ?

I feel like Iβm going to stop breathing and it makes it seem like an effort just to do it. I just want to be normal again and have my breathing go back to being automatic. Idk how to beat this, Iβm constantly worried about it
