Is it possible for a memory to feel like an actual memory like a realisation like it happened and then later on it feels false?im scared that I’m just trying to convince myself it’s false because I don’t want it to be real.I’m absolutely terrified.
Somebody on here told me my false memories were real today. I don’t think she meant harm but it didn’t help.

Mine felt like a realization as well. But when I remembered something that contradicts it my mind went "what if this is the real memory?"

@LiIac I got those immediately after I remembered things that went against it. The what ifs should've been a sign that it was a false memory. This is something I would've realized in the moment if it were true, but ocd doesn't believe that.
I got mine as a real memory and then later thought it was false. I have been worried about the same thing as you for over a year 😕 I feel like it must be real because I thought it was at first 😢
Same here. And the feeling of it too, but only a person with ocd would focus on the feeling. Buts it's like bc I believed it at first it must be true.

@Meg Johnson There were things that I already doubted. But then there were things that I’d never questioned and rarely mentioned. When I did mention them people did not remember. Now I don’t know what is real.

@Hopeforthefuture And also it does seem strange to me that It popped up when I was feeling extremely anxious about something else and then it just came out of nowhere

@LiIac Same, the what if popped up when I was scared of something else. And it kept bugging me to I looked back at the memory. And I tried to tell my intrusive thoughts to go away when I did it.

@Newb82 I don't know how I thought telling intrusive thoughts to go away while remembering would work. But my mind still uses that against it, why would that work? It never listened to me before?

@LiIac It sucks so bad. Cause it always seems like the false memory is plausible or true. And you can never have the certainty no matter how many other memories you throw against it. I always got more what ifs.
@Meg Johnson I know,ocd is confusing though wish is why I try to take everything with a pinch of salt if you know what I mean
@LiIac I can't do that I guess, immediately I believed the false memory and when I found things that went against it It was like "what if this is the real memory?" It's like I immediately believe the what ifs
Guys you're all making me feel less alone haha. Although honestly I wish I was alone in this bc its such a rough experience and I wish you guys didn't have to deal with it 😔 I seriously thought I was alone in this though. I scoured the internet for people experienced this (compulsion, I know 😬) but I couldn't find anything concrete (at least not enough to satisfy my ocd). When the memory came in I was also already anxious about something else and I immediately freaked out and was so anxious and I called my mom and told her all about it. And then she was like "you don't even sound sure about this memory" and I was like "???" And then I was like maybe it is a false memory and there were details that I had been iffy on I guess but it all felt so real and now my brain says "you thought it was real so it can't be false," "you confessed it so it can't be false" and "you're mom said you didn't seem sure so you are just using that as an excuse and you didn't think it was false until she suggested it might be so it must be true" all day everyday in my head.
@Hopeforthefuture I really relate to how you said that your brain says "you thought it was real so it can't be false", my ocd says the same thing
@Hopeforthefuture That’s exactly the same for me I told my mum and it felt real and later on it’s began to feel like a false memory but then I thought it must be real if i thought it was real first,god it’s honestly draining and it’s absolutely awful

@LiIac I thought I’d confessed several times but the last time I confessed the person didn’t remember me ever confessing before. Also no one has ever mentioned those things again.

@LiIac I'm a little scared bc with my original memory I remember maybe questioning it for a second before remembering that nothing happened. But idk if that's the first time I remembered it. All I know is I never worried while it was happening.

Does anyone else’s false memory intrusive thoughts of what could have happened feel very, very real?
When false memories have popped up for you guys, did they feel real straight away like pop up like a memory but you’re still doubting whether they’re real?
Can it feel like you literally remember a false memory happening? And it feels like the memory has always been there and you vividly remember it happening that way? Because I don’t even know if I’m experiencing a false memory or not but god it feels so fucking real. Like I literally remember it happening. But what’s weird is the original memory was kind of different. 2 years later, the memory is not the same, but it feels like I literally remember it happening. And in this memory, I’m fucking snapping. I’m acting on my thoughts. I feel like a fucking psycho. I hope this is just OCD
