Anyone got any info about this, what they take, side effects they had, amount, etc
It’s there, but it doesn’t impact your daily life. It becomes more like an allergy that you know how to take care of, rather than a debilitating state of mind.
I have read a ton of great reviews on fluvoxamine/Luvox for OCD. Lexapro worked wonders for me but eventually quit after so many years. I haven’t been on anything in a while. Considering trying something again.
i take wellbutrin ( 300 mg ) . the side effects for the first like 5-8 weeks are sweating, feeling dizzy, dry mouth, lose of appetite & heart beating fastly. i also lost a lot of weight on these meds ( i was 115 & i literally dropped to 82 pounds . ive gained my weight back to 95 pounds ) . BUT for ANY medication, do not expect this to cure you or make ur ocd go away. meds only make you able to tolerate it a bit more. lets say one of your ocd thoughts makes you have a breakdown for 3 hours, then if youre on the meds you might have a breakdown for 1 hour instead . it also makes it more possible to do exposure therapy ( if you want to do that ) or really any kinda healing because it lessens how intense everything is. another thing is people will say the meds should work within 2 weeks , for me that is NOT true. it took about 8 weeks for me to feel a slight change. i suggest taking notes on how you feel when you have an ocd thought. write down how long you thought about it, write down how intense it was on a scale from 1-10, write down what compulsions u did or how many times you did it & then when ur on the meds do the same thing and you’ll begin to see a slight change .
@hiddensquid I am starting erp process. I have seen that everyone’s ocd can be affected different and in some cases can make the thoughts and anxiety around the thoughts go to none. Have you done any other meds or just that one. Finding it difficult to pick.
@Anonymous i did wellbutrin. i was on effexor for like 1 day and i threw up all day long lolll, so i changed to wellbutrin
@Anonymous what i did to choose is realize what you DONT want from a meds ( example: not wanting to med to make you gain weight ) & realizing what you DO want ( example: wanting to feel energized ). then i would see ur psychiatrist and ask them what med would be best for you and u can give the psychiatrist ur list of things u want/dont want . me , for example, i didnt want a med that would make me feel tired because im already always tired, so i got on wellbutrin because wellbutrin makes u feel energized a bit & not tired .
I take fluoxetine, otherwise known as Prozac. It’s FDA approved for OCD. I began on 20mg and have been on 40mg since 2021. It took around 4-6 weeks to feel the full effect. Side effect wise, I’ve experienced sugar cravings and vivid dreams, but these have subsided over time.
@EmmaKN By vivid dreams what do you mean? I already fear having one of my thoughts in my dreams, so is it like that? And by full effect, did it basically put aside the thought or just make them a lot easier to deal with
@Anonymous The dreams weren’t problematic, just memorable. I was dealing with symptoms of depression when I began medicine. It helped restore my appetite and sleep after two weeks. I didn’t feel it help my OCD until that 4-6 week and it’s a gradual process, doesn’t happen at once. No medicine eliminates OCD, it just helps how you respond to it. I still experience bad days, but nothing compared to how I was before I was on it.
@EmmaKN Have you tried any other medication or just this one. And the memorable dreams doesn’t sound to bad since i remember most of mine already.
@Anonymous I have not tried another medication. However, it’s normal to try more than one for a lot people to find what works best for you. Most side effects decrease with time, so it’s important to wait out the given time frame for each medication to determine if it works for you.
@EmmaKN Cool, appreciate it. Just a side question, do you think the people that say the medication basically resolved their ocd are lying or not telling the full truth atleast?
It depends on what you define as recovery. It’s important to have a realistic outlook of what recovery looks like. OCD is a chronic condition, though it can vary in severity for different people, medication and therapy are effective tools to manage it. Medication often requires therapy to help establish full recovery.
@EmmaKN Yeah im just now starting the whole erp process with my therapist. Tried it by myself and got sent into probably the worst panic attack i have ever had. But as long as the thoughts are able to come and go and not think about it to much i consider that cured.
@Anonymous I’ve had OCD for 20+ years. It’s okay to accept there isn’t a cure, once you’ve recovered to a manageable point, you’ll see it’s not necessary.
@EmmaKN What does everyone mean by manageable
@Anonymous managable basically means when you feel like you are in more control of ur ocd etc
So I have been diagnosed with GAD and OCD and my psychiatrist prescribed me with zoloft 🤔 but I dont know im really hesitant to start medication because im scared of the side effects and ik afraid of relying on a medication for a long time. Does anyone else take zoloft? What is it like? Any side effects?
I understand that everyone is different but lately I have been debating on medication just because of past experiences but does anyone have any good experiences with medication that has helped them with their OCD as well as therapy or treatment? As of now I’m dealing with it by myself but it feels like it may be getting worse
As my current mental health has definitely reached a new low, I will probably soon start with medication. However, since I am actually somewhat afraid of the typical side effects of antidepressants and mood-stabilizers, I wanted to ask anyone who is or has been taking medication for OCD and or depression (and mood-swings). I recently got also diagnosed with depression (I’ll be further tested for burnout) and I also suffer from pretty intense mood swings and anxiety, both really draining the last bit of energy that I currently have. You can honestly be as specific and descriptive as you want since I don’t know any people in my personal life that take any medication for their mental health and I’m genuinely curious about side effects, how long the different meds take to kick in, etc. The only meds I’m familiar with are beta blockers, specifically bisoprolol but I want to switch to propranolol.
