This is so hard for me to say but I have a 4 year old son. I am now pregnant and out of nowhere I get intrusive thoughts about my sons private parts. It not sexual or anything instead it makes me mad like they pop up in my head over and over and it drives me mad. I don’t know why this is happening to me. I don’t understand it.
Hi friend! I also suffer from POCD and it targets my 7 year old son, 13 year old daughter, and 19 year old son. OCD attacks the things that we value the most. Of course it will want to attack the things we love most in this world. The thoughts that come up for me also typically have a groinal sensation with it as well, which means nothing. Thoughts are thoughts. Feelings are feelings. It’s hard to not beat yourself up for having the thought because you feel terrible about it. It completely goes against who you are and what you value; so why would the thought even be there then? The thing we have to do is let the thought be there. Don’t push it away and try not to get upset. If OCD pushes hard and is demanding an answer, give it a non-engagement response like “maybe that’s something I’d do or maybe it’s not.” Or “I don’t know and I never will know.” I know where you’re at and how scary it is. When I was in therapy, I had a fear of baby girls specifically and was told to look at pictures of baby girls online. Let the anxiety be there and learn how to accept the uncertainty. It’s not easy. It feels downright impossible at times. But I know where you’re at and how scary it is. ERP is the best thing you can do to show OCD who is the boss though and that it can’t run your life. I’m sorry to hear you are struggling. OCD loves to latch onto things that are important to us. Remember thoughts are just thoughts. They are not facts and do not define who you are nor what your values are. Often the harder someone fights the thoughts or tries push them out of their mind, the stronger they get. Instead, try to allow yourself to have the thought and respond with a neutral statement like “thanks” or “maybe it’s true maybe it’s not” without engaging any more or less than that. it is often the best approach and more effective. I know easier said than done but it does become easier with time and practice. If you are not in treatment for your OCD, you may want to consider reaching out to the NOCD care team for a free consultation. I am so sorry that you are having a difficult time. OCD is a very cruel disorder that will hit us where we are most vulnerable. I echo what @ Lisa LeeLou said. It is important to know that everyone has these types of intrusive thoughts - those of us with OCD think they mean something. And they don’t. Like Lisa said they are thoughts not facts. In my own life I get intrusive thoughts about many things all the time. Through ERP therapy I have learned to deal with them for what they are - intrusive thoughts. I don’t like them but when they are there I acknowledge them and disengage. Compulsing will make ocd stronger so do the very best you can not to try and figure it out - because honestly there is nothing to figure out. Your brain is misfiring. I hope this helps.
I had this thought of “what if” I touched my son inappropriately last night while I was sleeping and I don’t remember . I’ve been dealing with Pocd and I never thought something like this before. A little back ground my son is 5, nonverbal and sleeps next to me every night. For me, I am not much of a deep sleeper. I am somewhat of a light sleeper. So I’m up at every little movement he makes or unusual sound. Plus thinking about it if I was too say touch him I wouldn’t know how. I hate that now I have to think about him sleeping separately from me because I would love to cuddle with him and he’s the sweetest boy ever and me thinking I did that is soul crushing. Does this fall within intrusive thought or false memory? Has someone been though this if so I could use some help.
I need advice for intrusive thoughts. I used to feel like I could handle them. They weren’t nearly as bad as the things that related to my actual life. But now, I’m suffering. I haven’t had a sexual experience in over a year that didn’t involve constant intrusive thoughts. Most are somehow related to kids and I keep chasing off the thoughts but it’s so bad. I know you’re supposed to ignore them but I don’t know how I can just ignore that and continue what I’m doing. But they’re coming on stronger. I had one earlier I could not get rid of just as things finished so the thought came on strongly just before my orgasm hit and now I feel absolutely disgusting. I hated the thought and I know it’s not me and it was not enjoyable but it still feels like I was getting off to it. I feel sick. I’m so fucking tired of these thoughts. They’re in my every day life too and it’s all the time. I just want it to stop but ignoring it feels so wrong. What should I do?
I deal pretty heavily with this. The last couple days, I’ve had what I think are urges. Something pops into my head intrusively and then what stems from that is me WANTING to just indulge in it even though it’s gross. I get worried bc I used to struggle w thoughts about my dad for a long time until eventually I just purposely thought of him while self pleasuring and got off to it. While that’s something I did, it is NOT me. It all stemmed from my mental health declining a couple years back, I was never this way before. So I get worried that it almost happened or might happen with my pocd cuz I could never live with myself if it did.
