Obviously the United States is in a crisis right now with violence. Is it really affecting anyone else? I am obsessing about what causes people to “snap”. I fear others ppls evil can get into others. I honestly just want to cry. I wish I knew for certain evil things wouldn’t happen and that I also would never be able to do something evil. I can’t explain it well. Does anyone else kinda know what I’m talking about?
Oh yeah, all the time. I worry that maybe the diet or there's something in the food that makes people detach and then hurt people. But that doesn't make any sense, I think that all these things historically happened just as much as just hear about it more. Regardless of OCD you can't live your life looking for every potential outcome in the road, you're just going to have to trust that it isn't something that you'd genuinely worry about. Extremely difficult, I know, but I have faith in you!
@A person 1 YES OMG. I go down the rabbit hole and wonder if it’s chemicals in our food, if it’s social media, broken homes, etc. I can’t figure it out but it’s truly terrifying me and I can’t shake it

I can relate to that, I was trying to expose myself to the news about the shootings and other stuff that happened over here in Germany. It didnt go very well, it felt like it fed my harm OCD a bit. I‘m also very terrified about people doing stuff like this. Especially because they sometimes have no criminal record beforehand. I would wish for a peaceful world but thats not how life works. I more and more realize how much uncertainty was and still is affecting me.

It makes me obsess about “so are we all capable of this?” I search so much for certainty that evil will never happen through me or to me but life just doesn’t work that way. We just have to find the peace in taking life one day at a time. Life is full of uncertainty truth be told. Hang in there! You got people that understand 💖
I feel your pain friend. This is a case of cognitive distortion. You see other people commiting evil and think “will this happen to me too?”. In truth, OCD will never have the answer to this. It made it up, there is no real evidence that could prove this because there is nothing to prove, the situation isn’t happening right now! Try accepting this fear as made up and realizing you have no power to do anything about it, in time this will get easier♥️

Okay, so for the most part, if you have harm ocd/intrusive thoughts, you’ll understand (hopefully). If you haven’t seen, everyone is talking about the Netflix documentary “Dahmer”. Most harm ocd sufferers (myself included) that I’ve gotten to know all struggle with fears of being evil in any way (like a sociopath/narcissistic, etc). Do we need to make ourselves watch it? Even some of my friends without OCD say they couldn’t do it. The reason I don’t want to watch it is because I’m afraid it’ll trigger me. I’ll look for any common traits (this is what I do) and it’ll send me into a panic attack. But aren’t we SUPPOSED to on purpose watch things that bring us distress? The series has everyone talking about mental health and it SUCKS because OCD is considered “mental health” and I feel like it lumps us all into a giant category. Everything true crime triggers my harm ocd. I don’t even want to know humans are capable of such things because then it reminds me “it’s all possible”. I don’t know if I explained it well, but does ANYONE understand where I’m coming from 🥺🥺🥺🥺
Anyone else feel like their worst ocd theme is harm? I have several themes but I’d rather experience any of mine than my harm ocd. When I get anxious over my harm ocd, I’m miserable but when I don’t get anxious, my ocd latches on to “oh so you like this? Could you do this? Do you want to?” Ugh. I just hope someone understands or can respond bc I’m in a bad flare and just want to know I’m not alone 😔. Mine was personally triggered by the Idaho murder thing that I keep seeing on Tik tok. I made myself watch dateline about it for ERP so I’m sitting with all the anxiety right now and I can’t stop ruminating. He had OCD (the criminal who did it) so of course that has me legit spiraling. 😣😣😣😣
I hate that ocd not only latches onto people/things you love. But I hate how easily triggered it can make you and compare yourself to actual scary/bad people. TikTok has been such a big trigger of mine because I keep seeing crime cases, people harming people/younger ppl, and my most recent trigger someone potentially harming their pet. When I see all these things my brain tries to make connections to my past actions/things I said/ etc to try to find connections to how I’m also bad like them and I should just end it all before I truly end up evil. It scares me I don’t want to be an evil person or bad or worse things. I’m not like those people but my brain says other wise. How do I combat this? I can’t stop thinking about my latest trigger because I feel like it’s an old theme resurfacing and I’m so scared-please advice? Explanations? Why does this disorder exist?
