Scrupulosity ocd

Hi y’all! I just want to let you know that I struggled and still do sometimes with scrupulosity , (a form of ocd where you have spiritual bad thoughts about God) And The Lord Jesus helped me out of it. I pretty much all of the time felt condemned and separated from God, and saw Him through the “ocd goggles,” where I saw a god throwing burdens on me and looking only at my “perfectness” which no human can be—perfect. So Jesus Helped me by showing me the TRUE Jesus, the One talked about in the Holy Bible—the Kind, Gentle, Living and patient Savior. God sent His Son, Jesus into this world 2000 years ago to die for our sin, cause yes—we all do deserve God’s Just and Holy wrath—but Jesus came to take all of our sin upon Him because He is prefect and sinless, The Spotless Lamb, and God credits Jesus’ Righteousness to anyone who JUST Believes in Jesus, and they will be completely pardoned from that point on. There is nothing we can do to be separated from God, for once we believe in His Son Jesus, He becomes our Father. The Bible says all we need to do is believe, so for those of you who think you aren’t going to Heaven because of some thing you did, yet you believe in Jesus—then that is a lie. Romans tells us we are justified by Faith : Romans 3:21-28 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets, even the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for ALL those who believe, there is no distinction; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified as a GIFT by his grace through the redemption which is in Jesus Christ; whom God displayed publicly as a propitiation in his blood through FAITH. This was to demonstrate his righteousness, because in the forbearance of God he passed over the sins previously committed, for the demonstration I say of his righteousness at the present time so that he would be just in the justifier of the one who has FAITH IN JESUS; where then is boasting? It is excluded. By what kind of law? Of works? No, but by a law of faith. After justification (being pardoned of our sin through Jesus Christ thru Believing In HIM) comes sanctification (the process that lasts our entire lifetime growing in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ our Savior, producing Fruit of the Spirit, —we can only do all this through Jesus and His Holy Spirit, because Jesus said in Matthew that we can do NOTHING apart from Him. Just remember—refuse to listen to the lies of the devil and your feelings, and look to Jesus and His perfect sacrifice and how He says He will never leave you nor forsake you and “never cast you out” (John 6:37) God bless you and trust Jesus not your thoughts and feelings. Glory to God only, amen.

I understand the struggle you mentioned. It is similar with me. I became a Christian when I was 18. When I came to believe in the Lord Jesus and the things I’ve done wrong (my sins) were forgiven. As the Gospel of John chapter 1 verse 12 says; But as many as received Him (Jesus) to them He gave the right to become children of God, even those who believe in His name. I am now 62 and my OCD skyrocketed 2 years ago. I felt shame and guilt for things I was forgiven in a way I didn’t for decades before. I found I was translating God through my OCD verses translating God through the Bible. The Lord Jesus Himself said in the Gospel of Matthew chapter 11 verse 28 - 30: Come to Me all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light. I have to make sure I am not using OCD as how to view God but let the Bible be my standard. In my OCD struggles the Lord Jesus doesn’t keep me at arms distance but He was to embrace me in His arms. He is so, so Good.

My faith has been essential in my OCD recovery and I’m happy that you are able to put your trust in his Word, and not OCD’s demand for certainty. At some point in our OCD recovery (no matter what our theme) we have to trust the diagnosis of OCD and let go of our search for certainty. Isn’t that the definition of faith? It is helpful to have someone bigger than ourselves to put our faith in. Katie O’Dunne (an ordained minister and OCD Advocate) does great work with scrupulosity. Just an FYI - as you may find some of it interesting....especially Chapter 5 where I discuss the use of medication....but in doing so I try to make sense of the difference between scrupulosity and spiritual warfare.

None of us necessarily deserve to suffer from OCD, but OCD and all disease is the result of our fallen, sinful world. We struggle more than others with uncertainty and doubt. That may or may not change for each of us in this lifetime, but there is an ultimate hope! The central fact of all human existence is beyond all doubt - that Jesus Christ, the son of God, came to this fallen world to seek and save lost sinners (which is to say, every man, woman and child to ever walk the earth). He died a criminal’s death on a cross to become the perfect, sinless sacrifice to pay for our sin. Because NONE of us can possibly reach God’s standard. The tiniest fib or any other seemingly innocuous sin is enough to send you to hell. BUT PRAISE GOD!!! Jesus rose from the grave three days later. He now lives forevermore, and so can we! And because there’s absolutely nothing we can do to earn such a salvation, the best part is we don’t have to do anything! Here’s the deal - JESUS willingly suffered the death YOU deserve as a sinner. If YOU believe and accept this saving grace, and also REPENT (turn away from) your sin, then ALL your sins (past, present and future) will be washed away and forgiven! Then YOU will take on HIS righteousness in the eyes of God, allowing YOU to inherit eternal life with Him in heaven. To everyone who feels OCD has robbed you of the life you imagined, unfortunately there are no guarantees of a better life while in this world. But by putting your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and walking with Him, you can look forward to the glorious eternity that awaits in the life to come! Remember: O - Only C - Christ D - Delivers

I’m a Christian, but my OCD makes it feel like I’m always disappointing God. I deal with scrupulosity. I remember signing the cross compulsively throughout the night to where I was in physical pain. But the doctrines of, “God died on the cross for you. Stop being in ungrateful.” I was doing this because I had a bracelet with a cross on it, and when I moved my arm in a certain direction it would be an upside down cross. The filthy feeling I felt was so bad, that i felt like it was going being a demon into the room if I didn’t pray. I spent that whole night signing the cross in tears. Then the next morning I got up like nothing happened. I still deal with forms of this. Like feeling God is going to punish me if I sin. So if a bad thing happens in the day, I blame myself. For example, if I listened to a sing with a curse word in it, I would blame myself for things going wrong later in the day. I still do. Not to mention the things I restrict myself from to please Him. Even though I know He is already pleased with me. There is nothing like the depression and dissatisfaction of feeling like a you did something wrong while everyone else can do that same thing freely. I can’t tell the difference between my OCD and conviction. Can any fellow Christians help me out, and give me tips. I already know Jesus loves me, but merely being told that doesn’t help anything.

Religious OCD, Doubt, Rejection Mindset

Hi everyone. I’ve been having religious OCD for the past 4 months now. I’ve always been a Christian but it wasn’t until this year I truly gave myself to the Lord. I was so on fire. Getting amazing signs and healing from Him. He really changed my heart and desires! I love them! But the last couple months this OCD hit hard with obsession over scary thoughts & feelings. I started having thoughts about God existence & Jesus. It hurt so much and I’m really trying everyday to move forward but recently I feel like I have a rejection mindset. Like beating myself up over these thoughts and feeling like Gods left me sometimes or I’m not worthy of His love or me having these thoughts of doubts & unbelief was the last straw. I’ve been so attacked lately with this OCD. It’s scaring me. Sometimes it feels like it’s coming from me. I felt like I woke up in total disbelief. I just woke up feeling so numb and questioning life. Doubting everything and I get OCD is a doubting disease but dang. I don’t want to doubt God & Jesus. I look back at my experiences and sometimes it helps and sometimes it doesn’t. It makes me feel like God is mad at me or will leave me. I’m constantly checking myself, my feelings, my thoughts and even if I’ll “act on this thought”! Deep down I know it’s not true because God is love but does anyone have any advice on how to move forward with these thoughts of rejection? To have a better mindset of believing & receiving Gods Love, Grace and Promises.
