Hey! I’m really in need of some encouragement right now, can anyone tell me their experience with ROCD and their recovery? I’ve felt very hopeless the last few days and it would be nice to hear some recovery stories and uplifting words.
I recovered from rocd years ago 🙂🙂 never had rocd thoughts or compulsions in a long time, I just worry a bit sometimes,but that's normal
That's lovely to hear! How did you recover? What was the main things that helped you?
@96Anonym Oh God,I just had so many intrusive thoughts bcuz of my relationship and in the end one day I got so tired of them,like so so tired,I was like I'm gonna stop having these thoughts,that's it! Like I avoided doing compulsions and as the time went by those thoughts didn't matter or make me worry anymore and they totally went away after some time,but oh god they were a pain in the a** smh. I kept having images in my head too. I just realized there's not good in believing these thoughts and letting them make my days terrible. So idk after some time and very big struggle they went away
@96Anonym It was the same with health ocd. I made myself stop checking my body for any signs of an illness even if I still got intrusive thoughts,like I would get them even while eating and it would just ruin my whole mood,but I still wouldn't go check my body
@Sophia001 I’m definitely trying that and it’s made me calmer, the past few days i’ve been having total meltdowns :,) It was so sudden and he’s never done anything to make me feel this way which just adds to the guilt/anxiety but it is so comforting to know that you’ve recovered so well. I’m very hopeful and trying to keep a positive outlook. I never even knew ROCD was a diagnosis until I googled “having thoughts you don’t want to be with someone when you do” and I immediately knew i needed to seek therapy. Thank you for sharing!! I’m trying to tell myself I deserve to be happy without my brain trying to trick me into how i feel.
@Anonymous Look someone who's actually a terrible person in a relationship wouldn't even worry about being one..to ocd attacks what you value the most.. it feels very real but it's actually not real. Like think of it this way you've seen how good some people can lie and act and you wouldn't even realize that they're lying. If you keep telling someone a lie too many times they'll start to think it's actually the truth
@Sophia001 that’s such a good way to think about it, thank you! you’ve been so helpful and i’m happy to begin therapy and beat this for the sake of my relationship :) you’ve given me a lot of hope and i am excited to one day overcome as you have.
It's like we find comfort in worrying,it feels like if we keep worrying keep thinking about it we can avoid some things if anything happens.. that's why we feel anxious when we aren't even ruminating. Our brain is so used to the false hell that it denies to be in the true heaven (present where everything is safe)
Totally can relate! Out of all the OCD subtypes I’ve had, this one feels the worst because I keep hurting the person I love the most! It’s heartbreaking and it’s hard to differentiate between real thoughts and intrusive thoughts and to stop thinking and feeling guilty for having any kind of thought in the first place! It’s good to hear others stories on here of success! I have faith that we will make it through this and be happy again!
you can totally overcome it,I also got over health ocd too. Just try to avoid discouraging things,people. People who keep saying ocd isn't treatable and stuff
Im in my first serious and healthy relationship. I started having really bad anxiety and intrusive thoughts basically the moment he told me his feelings / intentions about me (I’ve never had someone look me dead in the eyes-sober- and tell me how they feel about me) and it was like a gut punch of anxiety and self defense kicking in. Ever since then (over a year ago now) my brain is still convincing me he’s not the one or he’s not right for me or the thoughts I had at the beginning were true , but I know deep in my soul how much I love him and how much my love has grown for him and my brain is going to do anything to tell me otherwise. I still “think” I need to break up with him to make these feelings of worry and doubt stop, but I just can’t picture my life without him. It makes my heart rip apart thinking of ever saying goodbye- so I just lead with that for now
@Anonymous Have you started therapy for this? I haven’t yet-my first session is tonight and i totally relate, the moment he told me he loved me this started :( I had a very abusive toxic relationship that I got out of a couple years ago, and i feel this may be a self sabotage/defense mechanism because I knew that I loved him but once it was said out loud all the thoughts began and haven’t even relented not once since.
@Anonymous Yeah I can 100000% relate. I haven’t yet for ocd - I’ve been in regular talk therapy since January to talk thru this. I love my therapist and she’s been super helpful but I think I need more specific treatment. They don’t take my insurance so I can’t afford treatment right now :/ but hopefully with journaling, mediating , education, and my other talk therapy I’ll get better over time. My boyfriend is the most supportive person with this so fortunately I know I have the most important person in my corner
@Anonymous Also same about the toxic relationship a few years ago- I associated that relationship with “love” and “perfection” when he treated me soooo poorly. I still find myself comparing my current relationship to my Old
@Anonymous I’m really sorry to hear that :( I hope you can get the more specific treatment soon. Yes my boyfriend is so supportive and kind which just adds to the guilt and anxiety. I relate to you so much !! Hoping you can start ERP soon and wishing you luck 🙏

@Anonymous i had this and i acc broke up with him, im starting therapy tommorow to try to fix this because it’s so draininh
I've struggled with ROCD on and off my entire relationship. Through ERP it has definitely gotten better! I have periods where I have ROCD intrusive thoughts and periods where I have almost none. If you do the work it does get better! I no longer have panic attack about my relationship and am able to live my life and engage with my husband instead of avoiding triggers and being miserable all the time!
@asternaut Thank you!! I start my first session soon. I’ve seen a lot that there a lot of compulsions (googling, telling your partner how you feel, etc) and today I’ve tried my very best to avoid them. It’s helped. I feel less anxious. I understand there’s a road ahead to recovery but I’m feeling so hopeful, since it’s already helping. Thank you for sharing your experience, I am excited to recover and putting forth a positive outlook.
@asternaut Avoid for lack of better words- I would say more like sitting with the thoughts and not using compulsions to get temporary relief.

@Anonymous I personally am struggling with the do i love them thoughts. I know it’s really hard, just have to keep holding on to the hope. i’ve seen so many people talk about how much better it gets with treatment. :) don’t give up

Your strong and can make it through this! I have felt OCD for many years and am making progress in ERP!

@jak. hi! i know it’s hard and i am still struggling, i won’t lie but i have been stopping myself with the compulsions and reassurance seeking and oh my god, it’s helped tremendously. i feel so much less anxious, the ruminating is still there but when you feel the urge to carry out a compulsion, instead just remember that it will only provide temporary relief and make it worse in the end. i promise it will help, i’m feeling so good compared to yesterday and the days before!

I'd like to hear people's recovery stories with harm ocd. I need some encouragement.
For anyone who has recovered or found ERP helpful, can you please share your best tips pr words of encouragement for doing the hard work of leaning into uncertainty? So many of us on here, myself included, are really struggling to accept uncertainty and not seek or give ourselves reassurance. It's really fucking hard not to, especially when our OCD is demanding that we find answers, resolve our worries, and get rid of the anxiety. I feel like hearing even just a few words of encouragement from those who have done the hard work could be so helpful for those of us who want freedom from OCD but are so afraid to give up our compulsions.
