Is it normal to feel anxious about starting antidepressants for OCD?

Antidepressants

So my OCD has gotten significantly worse in the last month or so. Constant anxiety and I decided to get antidepressants. I will begin taking them this weekend. I think there’s anyone have any good things to say about them? A couple years ago I got a script for them took one pill and the side effects were pretty hard to deal with so my doctor told me to cut one and a half and take that for a week but I decided not to take them. I think I’m ready to give it another chance. Does anyone else have anxiety about starting medication? Or does anyone have experience dealing with this?

Hey! Medication has really helped me! It’s really tricky starting medication with ocd because you question everything eh My advice is to give it a good few weeks and try and remember that you will probably have ocd thoughts about the meds- if you find the side effects a little too much you can also speak to your doctor about starting on a smaller amount and building up gradually. Hello! I have been on antidepressants for awhile and just switched to a new one to better help with my OCD. Initially I had anxiety surrounding medication, especially cuz the most challenging aspect of my OCD surrounds my health and bodily symptoms. However, it has helped so much and I am reallly glad I started taking them. You got this! And remember you can make any adjustments/communicate with your doctor as heeded

I deal with existential ocd rn but I’m afraid of side effects of antidepressants, actually I only take anxiety ones. I hope this will help you

@Lightning I really am determined to take them. The thing is I’ve been on them before about 10 years ago. I know this is just me composing. I need to do it. Just looking for any encouragement or successful experiences.

Medications

Hello,I'm so on the fence about starting medications or not. I know its a personal choice but what benefits have you all experianced? I also practice ERP with my therapist so I know that should be helpful with my OCD journey. But what made you decide to start or not start? I've been on Zoloft before but not long enough to feel the effects since I got freaked out about reading about withdrawl symptoms so my OCD messed that up for me.

Antidepressants and OCD

Has anyone had experience coming off an antidepressant and how it affects your OCD? I’ve been on antidepressants for years for depression and anxiety and recently made the decision to go off of them. It seems like since I’ve been working off of them, the intrusive thoughts and worries have been increasing. Another time when I previously tried stopping it the thoughts became so bad I was physically ill and ended up in the ER. I’ve seen before that SSRIs/SNRIs can be used too treat OCD, but I’ve never taken them for that purpose. Has anyone else had a similar experience of going off their antidepressant and their OCD symptoms increasing?

Medication

Hi everyone, I hope you’re all doing well. I’m hoping someone can share their experience with taking SRIs for their OCD and/or depression. Going on SRIs is something I’ve considered off and on before, and it’s hard for me to make a decision (thanks OCD). I know this is something I ultimately have to decide for myself, but am hoping to hear your experiences with brands, side effects, trial and error, overall change (good or bad) etc. ❤️
