Paroxetine
Yesterday I started taking paroxetine. Is there someone who is taking it? What dose are you taking and what was the dose you where starting with? When it started to work?

I take 20. I really dont like taking more than that because of side effects. I think its the strongest serotonin increaser on the market for the ssri class. It takes several weeks before intial side effects will calm down. So you have to stick with it for a while to see how it helps you. Dont mix alcohol with it. Keep it to one or two drinks if you do drink. I took 40mg for a while and it increases sleepiness. I wanted to take naps more. I still had a lot of energy just seemed like wanted more naps. But depression itself can also cause lethary or low engery so its kinda tricky.
Thanks for your answer
It worked wonders for me when I was 19. Over the years they raised it by 10 to 20 mg each time and now I’m on 75mg. I gained a lot of weight on it too. I’m not saying you will have the same experience but don’t let them increase like that. Like I said, it worked great for me. Give me my life back. Then it didn’t work as good as it used to back in the day and now after trying out a medications, nothing else has worked. Just stay in communication with the doctor and good luck.
Geez 75 sounds like a lot. I was on 40 and that seemed like plenty. I feel like 75 would make me sick.
@jhbishop80@gmail.com It lost its effectiveness overtime. Now I have to see what’s next to do. I tried all other meds and nothing else worked. TMS and hypnosis didn’t work and of course regular therapy had limited results. The “gold standard” works for some but has a 50-55% success rate. Depending on who pushing the treatment. Pretty much that’s the standard for all treatments. If it doesn’t work we’re just not doing it right. I’m sorry that all other organs mostly have a surgical approach. However, because it’s the mind it’s more complicated. 🤷🏻♂️
@Anonymous - Is your problem ocd or depression? Ptsd, etc? Whats your diagnosis?
@jhbishop80@gmail.com OCD depression and mood disorder. I’m sure there’s a personality disorder in there somewhere.
@Anonymous - The psychiatric community thinks ocd can cause depression because of how overwhelming and disabiling it can be. Diagnosing ocd and treating it is getting better but was rather absent not long ago.
I took it for years. By far the most effective one I took. I started having a lot of side effects so went down to 10 mg from 20 and eventually had to switch to another SSRI. I was fine on it for many years before I started having issues. But with Paxil or Paroxetine, getting on it sucks, took me about 4 weeks to feel better and not crappy. If you miss a dose, you will feel it, and coming off is hard. This is due to the short half-life, I believe. Just make sure you take it every day on this one. Some other SSRI’s are better for if you’re someone who forgets to take your meds every day
can anyone give me some insight on this? i was given 20 mg of prozac by my doctor to help me calm down while i wait for a psychiatrist appointment for ocd (i went in for an ekg because i was worried. nothing was wrong) yesterday was the 2nd dose, should i expect anything? i almost feel like it keeps me up at night since i take it around 7 pm, and i already have been sleeping poorly for a week or so.
I’m working with a new psychiatrist for medication. She suggested both prozac or luvox. wondering what has worked for people or any suggestions
I was diagnosed with OCD and I started Prozac 10 days ago. I have struggled with intrusive taboo sexual thoughts for 12+ years (I’m 24) but now I feel like it’s turning into feelings. I’ve never done anything to anyone or nor do I wish to ever. I am just scared of my own brain if this is something I actually want. My psychiatrist said I should feel better/start getting clarity after 2 weeks. But I keep feeling worse and worse. Anyone else has experience with Prozac and how it went for them?
