Concern about cat's breathing issues and feeling guilty for not vetting it.

Health concern about cat

I know I am reassurance seeking but my cat has difficulty breathing sometimes, it almost sounds like she’s wheezing or coughing or trying to hack up a hairball but I feel guilty because I only messaged the vet the first time it happened for the last fall and it seemed to resolve but after that it continued to happen occasionally like maybe once every few months and I didn’t message them again since the first time and I feel like a neglectful pet parent for not messaging the vet until now. The only reason I messaged them right now though was because I randomly thought of it and started feeling anxious and guilty. I used to message the vet a lot whenever anything seemed to be wrong with my cat but then my anxiety about it got somewhat better and I stopped doing it so much but google says that cat asthma can be life threatening and I’m afraid I’m putting her at harm for not doing something for all that time. And she has had a lot of health issues since I got her last September and I feel like it’s somehow my fault and that I’m neglecting her for not playing with her with her toys very often

Having cats is much harder than people think. people say that with dogs it’s so much more fun because you get to go outside and walk them and do everything like that. Cats are very needy as well and anybody would know that that owns them. I have five cats, so I am also very scared about my cats health and it plays a lot into my OCD. but I need to just try to tell myself if it’s not a dire issue, they are eating, pooping, peeing, and not acting lethargic,that they will likely be OK. Kitty asthma can progress and get worse so it’s definitely a good idea to get her checked out by the vet and to see if there’s anything that can be done to treat it and to voice your concerns. You aren’t a bad cat parent, there are always concerns that the vet visit is gonna be extremely expensive and stressful and bringing your cat outside your home is never a pleasant experience. Please be easy on yourself and I totally understand about not messaging people back and doing it suddenly out of guilt. The point is that you did it because you care about your pets health. good on you :)

I have a cat. It is stressful when your pet has health issues or conditions. I say follow your gut. If you feel that your cat might have health conditions and need to be seen by a vet, then take your cat to the vet. After a thorough exam from the vet, then you will know what needs to be done to take care of your cat. Give yourself some credit. No humans and no animals are perfect! We all have some type of health conditions. You are doing what you can for your pet and that is good enough

@Anonymous I typically do that because what’s the harm in asking the vet, really just fear of seeming weird or anxious. My family says I overdo it with the vet emails so it’s hard to find a happy medium

@Anonymous Also I was doing some researching and I think I figured out what it is! It sounds exactly like “reverse sneezing” which according to google doesn’t seem to be something huge to worry about at least until the vet gets back to me

@spookycupcake Might be hair balls. But i understand because for a long time, I always emailed the vet or the vet’s admins to pass my questions to the vet. I would worry and worry about my cat.

Great now I was trimming her claws and I wanted to pick up all the pieces of nails so it wouldn’t make a mess and one of them landed on her tummy like a centimeter from her genitals and I picked up the piece of claw to clean it up and now I’m afraid I SA’d her

I just got my own kitten today and am having a lot of ocd and anxiety about it 😞. I grew up with dogs and a cat my entire life in my family home and never had a problem. Although since moving into my own place I’ve never had one of my own specifically. I got my kitten today (I love my family pets and always wanted my own) but I’m soooo anxious. My ocd is terrible!’ Im worrying what if it was the wrong choice, what if something goes wrong , he ruins something, chews chords and causes a fire, changes my feeling of control over my living space, contamination fears , etc. whyyyyyyy do I feel this what do I do

Intense fear that I fell asleep on a cat

This morning I had the realisation I might have fallen asleep on a random stray kitten that snuck into my house, obviously I can’t find it anywhere in my house nor can I find any bodies of a dead hurt kitten anywhere home neither did my family, but each of these scenarios can be explained by either the kitten leaving my house in agony and dying outside or my family just lying about finding one as to not hurt my feeling. How does one go aout such unverifiable thoughts, how can I know I didn’t fell asleep on a kitten when I can’t really feel it on a soft bed when under me? Or that it might have jumped on my bed last second when I’m laying on it after I checked there was nothing on it? I know it’s unlikely but I can’t keep living like that... I spend several hours not sleeping yesterday night vecause I kept checking under me while in bed never being satisfied and sure I haven’t falle asleep on a cat and just forced myself to fall asleep regardless but I feel guilty now...

Pet Death/Injury intrusive thoughts

Y’all I am so goddamn mentally exhausted it’s incredible. I have a cat, she’s two and in perfect health, but my OCD won’t leave her alone. I’m constantly worried she’ll get crushed under a recliner or die of heat stroke in the dryer. My mom accommodates as much as she can, we keep the dryer shut and we keep a cat bed in the living room so she has a place to hide instead of going under the chair. I’ve never had an animal more than a year or so (hamsters that met tragic ends no matter what I did, and a senior dog that we put down after a year due to declining health) so I think the lack of experience with a pet is a big thing here, and she’s the first animal I’ve ever actually bonded with for real. I just want to make my brain stop describing her possible deaths to me and I can’t figure out how. Anything is appreciated. Thanks for reading, folks.
