Started celexa 3 weeks ago. Does anyone find their anxiety and ocd is horrible in the mornings? Then by afternoon it calms down? I don't know if this is due to the medication or if it's just my anxiety about the day.
oh yes the morning in the worst! our brains produces a lot of cortisol in the morning which makes the anxiety worse, it’s actually pretty normal for you to feel that way. i usually just try to focus on something else and keep my day going and then by the afternoon i feel a lot better
Yes! I feel exactly like this. Mornings are hard with anxiety, but then things calm down and I feel pretty calm by the middle of the day. But it’s almost like the anxiety about the mornings being hard makes the anxiety worse, if that makes sense. It’s like a self-fulfilling prophecy. I worry about being anxious, which then makes it worse.
@MissingHappy It's also like I'm dreading the day and how hard it will be, or what I'll think of, or will this be the day that I do something wrong? It's kinda like anxiety/depression attacks me hard every morning.
I'm the same. Anxiety that begins when I wake up and it just goes away at some point in the afternoon. As mbfaraoni25 mentioned, the body releases cortisol when we wake up (it's what helps us get going in the morning) and it seems that it's problematic for some of us.
@ReadyForImprovement Yes. Of course ive obsessively googled about this. 🙃 I wake up any body is vibrating with anxiety. Any tips on how to reduce it quickly? I was hoping the celexa would have helped more by now.
@Anonymous Some say that drinking a glass of water first thing helps. Decent advice since overall hydration apparently helps to minimize anxiety, in general. Some also get up right away and begin to do what they want or need to do for the day. Ultimately, moving forward with the day is recommended, but I know it can be really difficult when the anxiety is debilitating. As you do ERP and learn to go about your business even if you're feeling anxiety, things get a little better. We are meant to get used to doing things anyway when we feel anxious, without trying to fix the anxiety or trying to make it go away. Easier said than done, of course. I try not to fight the anxiety - I do this by being mindful of my body. When I'm anxious, I tend to hold my breath (this is relatively new, I used to just breath shallowly) when I'm feeling anxious and I tighten up my chest or wherever I'm physically feeling the anxiety. To stop fighting it, I ease up on the tension in my chest and make sure I'm not holding my bresth. Easing up on the tension, even for a few seconds at a time, helps to build that physical awareness/mindfulness and allows my body to be open to anxiety coming and going when it pleases.
@ReadyForImprovement Thank you! I think since I've started ERP a couple months ago I've changed some. I use to just lay in bed forever with the anxiety and depression which I've learn only exacerbates it. I've started getting up immediately and drink milk and having a banana. The intrusive scary thoughts are definitely 10x worse in the morning.
@Anonymous Oh, banana is a great idea! Not even just from an anxiety perspective. I have the same experience with the intrusive thoughts in the morning. It's wild because when things settle in the afternoon, I'm basically unflappable. The contract is so bizarre.
I'm having the same questions myself. I'm taking Zoloft and Buspar. I've noticed the same thing. Over all, physical anxiety is at peak in the mornings, but mental anxiety still runs throughout the day... they say cortisol is highest in the morning because it is what makes us get up.
Hey! I just started Prozac and I’m on day 4 or 5 and I’m feeling super anxious and having mini panic attacks, is this normal? I know my psychiatrist said anxiety will raise for the first two weeks but I just wanna know if this happened to anyone else. I’m also super tired Thanks 😊
This is kind of a weird question, but I recently increased my SSRI dosage and have experienced tremendous relief. It has quieted my intrusive thoughts so much and my compulsions are no longer as all-consuming. However, I don’t want to be on this high of a dosage forever and know that medication alone shouldn’t be my only fix. I’m seeing a new psychiatrist on Wednesday and am wondering if the recent decrease in frequency of my symptoms will be a bar to my getting ocd treatment? In other words, if in this present moment I’m doing better, but up until a few days ago my compulsions were taking up pretty much every moment of my waking day, will I still be classified as having ocd? I start getting worried when I feel better that I don’t actually have ocd and just use it as a defense mechanism to avoid consequences of my actions/I’m secretly a terrible person
I am having a really hard time with ocd and anxious thoughts and feeling extremely uneasy. I'm home alone today so it's really easy for me to get stuck in my thoughts. I'm on day 4 of prozac. I felt like yesterday I had a period of time of about 30 minutes where I felt really focused and like the anxiety lifted completely. But then an obsession started and it brought me right back down. Hopefully I feel relief again today. I'm going to go get some house work done to take my mind off of things. Does anyone have any first hand experiences with prozac? How long until you felt any relief? Any really bad side effects? Any unforseen pluses? Much appreciated.
