My religious ocd has been flaring up again. I’m afraid that the only way to get over it is to not be Christian at all. Is anyone still a Christian who has overcome or greatly reduced religious ocd?
I was able to greatly reduce. I learned a lot about legalism vs. grace. I had to tear down all of my old legalistic beliefs and rebuild my relationship with God based on my understanding of his grace. It’s a work in progress but I’m moving in the right direction. I find that when I sit with discomfort around sin (whether perceived or real) then it helps it become less charged. I realized that we go through this life not to “earn” heaven but to “learn” heaven. Learning heaving is a refiners process with many ups and down. Good luck!

I’m christian and i have a little bit of religious OCD! it’s just important to realize God is so forgiving and loving and that he wants us to be with him. He’s rooting for you! Also he’s seen everything you’re going through before so he’s not shocked or like appalled by what you do. He’s seen it all!
What we do is not what makes us christiabs. The Word says it is God who keeps us fir salvation. Therefore, it is His seal, through faith in Jesus as His Son and His righteousness as the attonement for our sins. His righteousness alone, not our works.
However, the Word also says we are not of those who shrink back... I don't think avoidance is the answer to your OCD, but rather to let go of gilt and shame. Do you want to tell me a bit more about what your struggle is exactly?
@RMO2023 I guess I’m worried my whole faith is just my ocd and once I get that under control I’ll be left with nothing. Like it’s just been rituals this whole time or something
@Renegade That sounds like OCD... it's been happenning to me lately also. Byt, that's just another reminder to rely on God, and not on ourselves.

I struggle with this too! I feel like I’m in a hamster wheel of “if I just do this it will fix this,” but then it feels like it just causes that same thing all over again. Ocd for Christians can be tough, as it is for everyone. I am trying to trust Jesus fully and give Him my feelings. Our feelings are valid, but that doesn’t make them true. So when we give our troubles to Jesus (as He tells us to) He speaks truth into them. Nice to know I’m not the only one ❤️❤️❤️

I am suffering from religious OCD for the past 32 years. When I am practising disregarding my OCD fires back with strong thoughts of until when u r going to disregard. When I say to myself God is with me it fires back with thoughts of what God has done until now. You will never recover. May I ask you what is this. Azhar from India
Hey guys so I’m new to this. I struggle really bad with religious ocd on top of other themes of ocd i have. But the religious ocd and POCD I have are definitely the hardest two. Today was so hard for me because I was freaking out all day about the eclipse and if it was the end of the world. I grew of in a very strict church and being gay was not acceptable so now I feel I’m morally wrong and unlovable in a sense. I don’t really know how to explain it. Wether it was from my youth pastor outing me on stage in front of all of my friends and hundreds of students, to them praying over me for years on end, before I finally left the church. Yet I still question if my salvation is safe or not. I question if God loves me etc. it gets so bad that I’m convinced everything I do is because I’m possessed by a demon. And I’ll start to vomit. Literally vomit. It sounds wild I know. Wether it’s music my ocd deems demonic or movies or spiritual things such as tarot cards that I enjoy. But my mind will convince me if I use them I will go to hell because that’s what I was taught for so long. I just wish I could get better but I don’t know how and I’m so hopeless.
Hello, I’m very new to this and have never confessed the fact that I struggle with severe scrupulosity (religion ocd) to anyone before. I am not officially diagnosed but I have spent countless hours researching and know that I am dealing with this horrible mental illness. I can’t function anymore. The intrusive thoughts are getting so bad. The moment I wake up they begin to pop into my head & I can’t even sleep because they are just running all over my mind. The thoughts are so bad that I don’t want to repeat them but they mostly are blasphemous bad thoughts. I avoid praying and religious services because it triggers my bad thoughts. I cannot control anything and I have no access to therapy because I’m so scared to ask for help and don’t know how to even describe to my family what I am going through. It’s so debilitating and I just keep repeating these scripts to myself to try and relieve my mind but it just starts all over again. It’s non stop and I know I cannot keep going like this. I don’t know whats real or isn’t, I just want a break. I’m so scared of everything and it’s interfering with my life more and more. If anyone could share some words of encouragement or tips it would be greatly appreciated.
