SSRI experiences I’d really appreciate it!

i recently made an appointment with a new psychiatrist in order to discuss meds to treat my ocd. mostly because i have pure-o and my mind being so busy with thoughts and compulsions making it hard to tackle treatment, its hard to identify my compulsions and intrusive thoughts properly. i struggle with a few themes but the mains ones are honestly relationship, harm, and as of recently pedo. I’m considering prozac and sort of zoloft. however, i’d like any happy positive stories about ssri’s. im very scared to start medicine even if a small part of me is also excited for the possibility of feeling some relief since i have never been on anything and honestly after this last year a part of me has forgotten what pre ocd me was like. thank u guys sm

Hello! I recently started Prozac (I’ve been taking it around the last 3 weeks and im currently on 10mg after starting from 5mg) and it’s been helping tremendously - I suffer mainly from pocd and harm related intrusive thoughts and whilst I still get the thoughts they’re definitely more muted and I’m confident that they’re not real Ive had a few side effects but nothing too bad - I mostly just feel restless throughout the day, I feel nauseous sometimes but that normally subsides after eating and since I upped my dosage I feel the increased need to do compulsions but I think that’s just to do with the restlessness and will subside after a while I’m still aiming on going up to 20mg and I wouldn’t say that everything is better but it’s 1000x better then it was before I started taking Prozac + I haven’t even gotten to the time frame when it’s supposed to start properly working so I can only assume it’s going to get better from here! I hope this quells any doubts and that your ssri experience is as good as mine has been so far ☺️

that's amazing and im very glad it's working for you. I've gotten to the point where im like yk what it really might be worth it to try because with pure-o things get so jumbled up in this brain of mine. plus i have adhd and i would like to treat that but need my ocd under wraps first. also thanks for ur response! keep me updated🙈

I feel like this is never prescribed for OCD anymore, but I was on and off Paxil for years and really had a good experience! I only came off this time because I was not in ERP, and wanted to try that without meds for a bit.

@klin18 That is to say - my OCD wasn’t “gone,” but the physical symptoms of the stress and anxiety were so diminished that I was able to feel stable and calm most days.

that's really good, and lol ur right i feel like for ocd theres like a select few that are commonly prescribed. tbh for ssri's in general u can definitely see there are some that psychiatrists prefer to use more. either way i'm glad it helped you and i hope to experience the same

I took Prozac, only 10 days . But I had ticks and they made me stop. I’m trying to do without medication for now, but who knows ? I might need it. And that’s ok. That’s OCD sometimes to making you nervous to take mediciation because you’re thinking about the worst that can happen.

@QueenE1998 The doctor made me stop the medicine because I had tics I’m sorry I typed too fast haha

@ashcash Lol! No please don’t let me scare you! I’m a nervous wreck anyways! But on the meds my body just had to get use to it, it was an effect like any other meds have. If I’m not able to handle this, I’m going to get BACK on meds.

@QueenE1998 - ok ok ur right. I feel like with psych meds we are so much more aware of side effects cus of stigma, the fact that many of us tend to be worriers, and so on

I'm back on zoloft, dealing with pure O, and after 2 weeks, I am not cured but definitely better moments

Experience with Prozac

I was diagnosed with OCD and I started Prozac 10 days ago. I have struggled with intrusive taboo sexual thoughts for 12+ years (I’m 24) but now I feel like it’s turning into feelings. I’ve never done anything to anyone or nor do I wish to ever. I am just scared of my own brain if this is something I actually want. My psychiatrist said I should feel better/start getting clarity after 2 weeks. But I keep feeling worse and worse. Anyone else has experience with Prozac and how it went for them?

Medication (Prozac)

I am having a really hard time with ocd and anxious thoughts and feeling extremely uneasy. I'm home alone today so it's really easy for me to get stuck in my thoughts. I'm on day 4 of prozac. I felt like yesterday I had a period of time of about 30 minutes where I felt really focused and like the anxiety lifted completely. But then an obsession started and it brought me right back down. Hopefully I feel relief again today. I'm going to go get some house work done to take my mind off of things. Does anyone have any first hand experiences with prozac? How long until you felt any relief? Any really bad side effects? Any unforseen pluses? Much appreciated.

OCD and Zoloft (Sertraline)

Hi everyone, I’m new to the community. I was diagnosed with OCD just a couple of months ago and have been doing some reading and other research to try and understand the disorder. With this, I have been actively seeing a great therapist who has been helpful to build tools to deal with my intrusive thoughts ( contamination OCD is my worst theme). Do help learn to deal with the compulsions, I start on Sertraline or “Zoloft” I believe since November 2024. Currently I’m on 50mg and have been doing this for just over a month. My question for those who are also taking Sertraline and it has been successful, how do you know it has really provided a benefit and how long did it take to get there? I sometimes feel the medication works, and sometimes I feel it doesn’t (maybe that’s my OCD trying to mess with things). Thanks!
