hey there! i’ve been having a few quite bad days. i have a question to those of you who typically ruminate imagining scenarios: does imagining (e.g. kissing a female/male) help you realize you are straight? often it makes me feel straight, but sometimes imagining kissing a girl feels like i want it and i can picture doing and liking it do you also experience this?
Anything that feels like you HAVE to do it in order to gain certainty and feels urgent is a compulsion. I’d suggest avoid doing this if you want to gain freedom from OCD in the long run.
@Youarenotyourthoughts but when i ruminate and it really feels like i could want this, is it still a compulsion or just the reality i don’t want to accept? 😩
@e.hkp When we have OCD, we think if we think enough, we can solve an unsolvable problem. This is an unsolvable problem. You can’t think it through and predict/assume how you would respond. We can only be sure of the data we currently have. Only way through this is to sit with the uncertainty. Anything is possible but you are gonna keep doing what you value and think is right.
@kiki.02 Yes, OCD can give you intrusive thoughts as well as feelings.

Look at yourarenotyourthoughts post. Keep working on the rumination and imagination. Neither of these do you any good.

Always i feel i like it in my imagination, i really feel my case is special and not an ocd anymore
@star1232 Do we all feel this? Sometimes I feel like I can clearly see that this is not what I want but the symptoms haven't helped

@star1232 the feeling that our case is different, sometimes I feel that my obsessions are not such and that the rituals are not rituals in themselves, that of such a small population in the world with OCD it is strange that I can belong to that group and that only I avoid the reality of what I fear

Am I the only one who experiences this, or is it more common than I think? Sometimes, I find myself imagining what a couple’s sex life might look like, or what a person’s body might be like. I think it’s driven by curiosity, and I focus on it for a few seconds. When it comes to family members, teenagers, or anyone I feel uncomfortable imagining in this way, I used to be able to shake it off as an intrusive thought. But lately, I can’t seem to let go of it anymore. I’ve become used to the anxiety, but I’m stuck questioning what this means about me, especially since I’ve taken time to think about it. This is really stressing me out because I feel like a pervert. I’m hoping that this is something more common than I realize and that OCD is just distorting something. I feel like I really need some insight here. Any advice?
I started having intrusive thoughts about my sexuality when I got into a relationship with my ex and I wondered if it would seemingly go away but it hasn’t and I find myself ruminating about it constantly especially before or during my period. Has anyone else felt with this?
I went out last night with a couple of girlfriends. One of them is contemplating divorcing her husband bc of a drinking problem (she is straight) and made a joke about running off and joining the “lesbian island”. She then continues to say “making out with a girl is one thing” but that she could never actually BE with a woman sexually, etc. Well… this has triggered my SO OCD significantly because I’m thinking, well why does she think it’s okay to just kiss/make-out if she doesn’t identity as bisexual? I mean she is beautiful and I’ve heard all my straight friends say the same thing. So I start to worry by thinking, well I find her very attractive - does that mean I want to make out with her and see what she’s talking about? Just to note, I also identify as straight and am married. So this is just so damn frustrating and confusing. Especially bc society shows women kissing all the time on reality tv shows etc (who present themselves as straight). So now I’m having intrusive thoughts and making myself think sexual things to “check” if I’m still straight. Ughh..any advice would be greatly appreciated. And if someone could please explain why a straight woman would make such a comment - that would be very helpful.
