I'm wondering if I should be worried about a dream I had where I enjoyed snuggling someone other than my girlfriend and the thing that stopped me from getting on top of him was my morality, or if I'm just ruminating because dreams are weird as crap? I'd really appreciate some help cuz I don't really want to stress out my girlfriend with this.
I have analysed many dreams before, and I always come to the same conclusion- I can’t ruminate about that… it’s a DREAM/NIGHTMARE: whatever u want to call it. They’re not real, they’re part of our subconscious and that’s not saying that because it’s in your subconscious it’s a desire, it could be quite the opposite especially if your ocd theme revolves around ROCD/SOCD. We have all sorts of unwanted thoughts that come through our subconscious , when you’re consciously thinking about something you’re either wanting to think about that or you’re consciously ruminating (as an ocd compulsion: that does not mean you’re wanting to think about it, you’re trying to figure out your thoughts which I find myself doing, while having countless other intrusive thoughts pop in, it’s still all unwanted!) I guess what I’m saying is please don’t fall down the rabbit hole of thinking dreams mean something, I could have a crazy dream about me wanting to go murder someone and actually doing it: but do I want to do that in real life? No not at all. I actually really resent people who are capable of such things. So yes dreams can make you uncomfortable and in certain dreams of mine I have been “happy” or “experiencing positive feelings” in the dream but that’s not actually me - I can’t control my dreams: when I wake up they bring me nothing but dread and sadness no good feelings, so though I may come across as “happy” in the dream- I literally have no control over what’s happening in the dream and it’s not real because those things that happen in the dreams do not make me happy or feel good in any way. Does that make sense, sometimes our dreams are showing us like almost a movie our subconscious has created, the movie is not real, if you had control in your dream would you have done that is what you have to ask yourself- plain and simple for me, no. I would never act on those things that happen in my dreams and I genuinely feel upset by them, I hope this makes sense and helps in some way? How you feel when you wake up is truly how you feel about the dream, if you feel sick, or uncomfortable or just go wtf was that even if you don’t ruminate and worry all day long- that’s how you feel about the dream and that shows that whatever “movie” your subconscious was showing u was not real and just a way ocd can play tricks on you even when you’re sleeping.
Thank you! Rocd is a pretty common thing for me so it makes sense it was just seeping into the dream, I'd never cheat on her and was bugged by it very much. Even now my OCD is trying to tell me it's still a problem because of enjoying someone's warmth the other day even though I think it was mainly because we're long distance, and I want so dearly to hug her. I just feel horrible that my OCD keeps making me question stuff and stressing us both out, so I'm trying to actually reach out for advice now instead of just figuring it out ourselves. Thank you!
I have dreams about people other than my boyfriend and what I’ve learned is it doesn’t necessarily mean you have a desire to be with someone else, it often times symbolizes a part of you or something you’re longing for (like a feeling or characteristic of something else). Maybe you’re longing for more quality time with your girlfriend and that’s how it presented itself to you in your dream.
Yeah, we're long distance so it's been rough not being able to physically be with her..
@WolfyFloof That’s my guess as to why you had that dream… but in the end it’s just a dream. We have weird dreams all the time. I allow myself to take a minute to see if I can make any real life connections, and if not, I move on.
I have been struggling today, most likely due to lack of sleep. I had a thought that I would consider intrusive, but what really unsettled me was that I felt like I liked it, **not just in the sense that I lacked anxiety over it, but that I genuinely felt like I wanted it.** It left me feeling really confused. It happened during intimacy, which makes it even more unsettling. The thought was incestuous, I found myself imagining and comparing the moment with my boyfriend to my father :/, and what really alarms me is that I felt like I wanted it there, both mentally and physically. I was having a really nice time, so maybe the physical sensations got mixed in somehow, but it still worries me. I did my best not to ruminate in the moment and avoided checking. I tried to move on, but the feeling of genuinely liking the thought was so clear that it is hard to shake off. Has anyone else experienced something similar? This is one of the first times it has ever happened to this extent.
I already made a post about this but I have theory over what might’ve happened because I can’t really stop freaking out about how much like me it felt. My boyfriend told me his cousin grabbed his other cousin’s girlfriend’s boob while drunk. Later, I started imagining it happening to me, with my boyfriend getting defensive (I love drama-filled moments in stories). Then, I thought, “Why couldn’t it have been me?” and got scared. I know I like attention, and I’m worried that’s why it felt so real. I almost felt excited. I’m wondering if it was just an intrusive thought or if my brain was mixing up the daydreaming feeling with that. Later that night, I started thinking about how I could position myself to make it more likely to happen, and I immediately felt horror. I’m into things like CNC, and I’m wondering if my brain got confused, mixing the daydreaming excitement with that preference, which is why it felt so real? I don’t know. I’m feeling scared because it genuinely felt like me both times. Has anyone else experienced this kind of brain confusion? Is that even possible?
I know people say ocd can manifest in your dreams. I had a semi sexual dream, in that there was a naked woman and I enjoyed the dream so surely that can't be ocd. Idk this shit is annoying.
