when did ocd start for everyone? i remember having some small like perfection things like if i didn’t close my eyes and fall asleep at a certain number then i would die. but at age 12 hocd started and i got groinal repsonsss,guilt,everything. it slowed down then in august picked up at full speed and its awful.
This sounds really difficult. I hope things settle for you soon. I know how it feels but I haven't seen a doctor or been diagnosed. I don't know when it started for me exactly but I remember I used to worry my mother would die. This was after my brother died suddenly when I was 15 and I'd check she was breathing whilst she was asleep. Then when I was 18 I was worried I'd turn into my mothers ex (he was a pedophile). This lasted for a few years on and off. It faded but then I'd also worry other people were pedophiles. I've also been obsessed with my own health and was convinced I had a heart problem. Checking my body all the time, googling symptoms etc. My worries move from one thing to another and I don't seem to get a lot of rest in between. It's exhausting and whilst I'm in it, I genuinely believe what I'm thinking is true. It's only when I start to calm down I realise my thoughts are probably irrational. I'm hoping to learn more through this group.

I never considered my self a person (possibly) with ocd until very recently (I’m 25), and my main themes have been SOOCD and health. Looking back at my childhood I see signs now such as being terrified of throwing up and of having a fever (I would take my own temperature when I was not at all sick), and a ritual nightly prayer or a thing I’d have to say before every soccer game. The SOOCD came when I was 14 and it was triggered by watching a tv character come out to her parents. My orientation obsessions have been on and off since… often resurfacing in times of life transition
The earliest I can remember having symptoms of it was when I was 4.
I think ive had OCD my whole life, but honestly I think I had some signs of HOCD very early on. Full blown HOCD didn’t come on until I was about 15 and it’s been hell
I also have other OCD-like behaviors/disorders, trichotillomania and dermatillomania that I’ve had for a minute
First subset struck at 7, I had contamination ocd, experienced harm ocd at 18 and got diagnosed. I’ve also have a long history of eating disorders and body dysmorphia which fall into the same obsessive camp, considered recovered. Counting episodes and needing things to feel ‘just right’ is something I really relate to. Also had episodes of thinking I’d contract HIV. Experienced ROCD and SO OCD. Been stuck on SO OCD for a long time now. It’s the worst and most stubborn subset I’ve ever ever ever experienced - and the most convincing of them all! Don’t know what’s me and what’s ocd anymore. In my 30s now so had a long history of ocd in one way or another, but periods when been more dormant xxx
i don’t think i have ocd. i really don’t. yes, i seek reassurance 24/7, ruminate almost all day, check reaction, replay memories over and over, but i don’t have intrusive thoughts like everyone else. also, my hocd started at 11 and is on and off. please someone talk to me.
for those with sexual orientation ocd.. if you are comfortable sharing (and if you remember), what was the moment/person/place/etc. that first triggered your sexual orientation ocd? i’m just genuinely curious and want to see if there are any patterns. for me it was the summer before my freshman year of high school (i am currently 21). i was going to a pride parade with some family friends and was texting a guy that i ended up dating for a while. to be quite frank, he was a total idiot. he asked what was up and i told him that i was going to a pride parade with some friends. his immediate response was “wait does that mean that you are gay??”. i remember that i got this weird sensation of panic after i read that text. and his question like stayed lingering in my mind for longer than it should have. long story short, my sexual orientation ocd really kicked in halfway through my freshman year of high school..but i didn’t realize that that was what it was until about 2 years ago.
for those with SO-OCD, how did your subtype come about? for me it was just one day lying in bed and irrationally thinking that since I wasn’t interested in hooking up with my male “friend” that I was gay and that I was hiding the fact from myself all these years. Im just not too familiar with how OCD manifests in people. like is it sudden or?
