rabies

I have no idea why but ever since I came across a video on rabies, I've been absolutely terrified of catching it. you can apparently go years without any symptoms and then once you start there's like no chance of survival. I've had no exposure or been bitten by anything mind you but I'm so scared that I've caught it or am going to catch it. I don't know why this fear suddenly came out of nowhere but I've been avoiding my pets because of it. Any ideas on how to get my head off of this?

I had it for a while too. It was harsh. If you take care of your pets, they are safe. And just so you know, even people that get bitten, can do a vaccine that works for most of the time. I know how scary it is

I am in the same boat, rabies is unfortunately a terrible disease but is also incredibly uncommon to encounter for the average person. Your pets are protected if they get their annual rabies vaccine and in the worst case scenario that you do get bit by an animal, the vaccines for humans are incredibly effective against rabies. For me it was helpful to look into statistics more and see how rare it actually is. I am still terrified of bats but unless you are caving often or live in an area with lots of them, it’s rather unlikely you’d ever be bit by a healthy one, much less a rabid one.

My cat

This morning while i was eating cereal my cat approached me as always, as i usually give her bits of milk for herself (very small amount, and she doesnt get to drink milk often) but today a thought suddenly popped up that said "what if my cat has rabies and i just dont know" and it made me so paranoid i denied her milk. I can see that it is irrational but it scared me so much, sorry michi.

fear of rabies

I recently saw a tiktok about rabies and now I can't stop thinking about it. I'm so scared a bat bit me and I didn't notice and now I have rabies. I haven't seen a bat in a long time and in my country there hasn't been a case since 2018. But I'm so scared what if I have it or what if I get it. What if I wake up tomorrow and I have hydrophobia(one of the symptoms). I can't stop thinking about this:(

new fear

I have health concern ocd and my current obsession is rabies. I just opened my window to get some air and now I'm convinced there's a bat in my room that's gonna give me rabies... I checked my room and didn't find one but now I can't stop thinking about it and I can't fall asleep. I think I would be able to see it if it was in my room but...
