I’m going to a Psychiatrist today for the first time because of ocd. Do all Psychiatrist knows about ocd and the themes ? Or I need Psychiatrist that knows about ocd cause im afraid she will not know and then she will think I’m crazy or a bad person
I’m already in therapy for ocd but going to Psychiatrist to see if I can get meds cause ocd is too much
@OrMsB Just tell him, that you are diagnosed with OCD, there is no need for you to go in to detail. If he does ask about more details, just mention a couple of your themes, that have nothing to do with taboo aspects. Perfectionism and Magical Thinking OCD, for example. Psychiatrists should know about OCD and all the possible subtypes, but sadly, I have met a few, that had no idea about it and their stupid questions and assumptions sent me spiraling. I'm glad, that you are taking this step. Let us know how it went, if you feel comfortable doing so.

@Zoë_84 I told her at the end, she told me I’m not the only one who has these thoughts and that I do have ocd
@OrMsB Her giving you a diagnosis is great! Which medication did she prescribe?
@Zoë_84 We actually going to meet in Friday to sum up everything and talk about that. Right now I don’t know but at the start she told me Prozac and then she told me that it might be something else with less side symptoms
@OrMsB That's a start. Prozac is an SSRI, which I also took a while back.

I went to a psychiatrist from my experience and some of them get a bit uncomfortable when you bring up ocd especially if they don’t specialize in it but they will provide you with medication if they deemed it’s not manageable from what you tell them

@OrMsB Correct because I don’t know why but some psychiatrist don’t understand and won’t take your symptoms for it they need actual proof even though they can clearly see the distress within the patient but I really do hope you can find one that’s a good and doesn’t invalidate your ocd
@Anonymous I’m really scared like to open up and tell her, my parents are talking to her right now and I’m outside. To get a diagnosis will probably take a while. And with my therapist it was easy to open up and tell her about everything because she knows about all of ocd themes. And I’m afraid to tell that to her so she won’t think I’m crazy
Update- I open up to her and she told me I do suffer from obsessive thoughts and told me and my parents that meds are necessary because it’s every second In the day. Im going to start meds this week. And I’m scared but hopefully it’s will help a bit
@OrMsB I’m happy to hear that you had a good experience and that you’re going to get the help that you need. From experience the medication does help a lot the thoughts quiet a bit and you’re also not so busy focusing on them the anxiety goes down as well. It’s even better when you’re practicing the techniques shown by the therapist on here as well.

I had my second session with a therapist and they told me they don’t think I have OCD. They think that I have just intrusive thoughts. They also said they don’t do diagnosis. I also noticed they did not ask me questions about my different themes.This has made me so confused. Even though I had a terrible fear that a therapist will tell that I don’t have it, (which is the main reason why I had not gone to one) I did suspect I had it because I identify with many of the symptoms. On the website it says that they treat it but I don’t think they are like a specialist. On the first session they described OCD mainly as needing to have things symmetrical and fear of contamination. I have a feeling that they don’t know much about it. I also didn’t mentioned all the themes I think I have because I’m scared to be misunderstood. I am not sure what to do. I can’t afford seeing an OCD therapist at NOCD. Can anyone give an insight, has something similar happened to you? Thank you!
Therapist put it on the table that I should see a psychiatrist that she recommends. I felt relief because maybe the psychiatrist can tell me what's wrong and the plan going forward but im scared because what if my symptoms vanish or i miraculously get better (i doubt it) then what if i've been making a mountain of a mole hill. Or what if i dont know how to express myself. im obviously not scared of getting better, but i just don't want to seem like im making people scramble to treat me and then it turns out theres nothing wrong. like what if i don't have OCD and im just making all this stuff up in my head. what if i just want something to stress about
17f So I don't have an official diagnosis, but I know I have it, I struggle with it since I was 4, I went through like almost every theme like contamination, symmetry, checking, existential, health anxiety, false memory, moral ocd, sexual ocds, and also a therapist told me I have it (another one said I have generalized anxiety disorder but idk like I was talking about textbook ocd to her) I don't have a therapist now therapy is not working out well for me but I was hoping to maybe get medication For me the absolute hell is POCD and real event ocd. I genuinely don't know how do I start. I also think I will replace POCD with harm ocd cause well I'm to scared to talk about POCD. But what do I even say like do I come in and talk about more obvious ocd stuff I experience and then randomly jump to POCD, seems like a crazy jump idk... Also I thought it will be in the evening and I will have time to prepare but it's in and hour and a half I'm terrified Anyone? Help? How do I start what do I say I'm so scared
