can OCD be shown in MRI?? I'm thinking of telling my mother that I'm suffering from OCD but ik no matter how much I try she won't believe me, she just says "it's nothing. People at your age don't have mental illness" so if it can be shown in MRI or brain scan I'll just do it and show her, please tell me.
Not a neuroscientist, so I can only offer layman's opinion. I think they did find that people with OCD have some differences in brain structure, like statistically. But I am not sure if you can really use it on an individual level to diagnose someone with OCD... I did an MRI years ago (when I already suffered from OCD) and back then nothing out of the ordinary showed up according to the neurologist. As for convincing your mother about OCD... Unfortunatly, a lot of people have internalized a lot of false believes about mental illness and OCD in particular. And as with any strong preexisting believe, these people just have a really hard time to let go of these misconceptions. I don't know how old you are, but if you are an adult it would probably be best to try to search for a therapist who can help you and maybe also talk to your mother about OCD. A lot of times people are more willing to listen and learn from an expert.
I'm 20 but my parents are very very strict and idk how to get therapist on my own? My parents don't let me go outside alone and I can't even tell them, I just know my mother is going to sarcasm me later if I tell her I get lot of disturbing thoughts
@Anonyymousss You can try joining an OCD server on discord if you can't get therapy but please donot let your parents disbelief make you think that you can't have a mental illness. Your feelings are your to feel. If you go to school/university try finding a psychology teacher/ a teacher who has studied psychology there to talk too asw. I can totally understand why you might feel so unsupported and not cared for, but trust me these issues are real and need attention.

First, don't do self-diagnosis. Approach them by telling them about the problem, not the illness, because you don't know. Maybe this is the reason they are resisting. Ask them to see a specialist to tell you what exactly is going on. Then maybe the specialist can talk to them.
Dang.....I have been doing ERP alone from 8 months and 8 months ago I told my mom I get scary thoughts but she said I should socialise more and it will be okay and once I told her I'm mentally disturbed but she mocked me saying I'm too young for this and now I'm scared to tell her Ik she will never even believe me
@Anonyymousss She might be right about socializing more. OCD loves to have you alone, so deprive it of this chance. But see a specialist.

Listen, I totally get it. It’s hard to hear a loved one obsessing over small, insignificant things. My mom tries to be supportive, but she gets so mad when I tell her what’s on my mind, and she just yells at me and says I’m crazy for thinking like this. So, I just sent her this, and I hope it helps: Mom, I know it’s really hard, but when I’m suffering with OCD thoughts, all I need is sympathy. Getting mad at someone for having OCD is like getting mad at someone for having a head injury. Please understand that I can’t help it, or else I would stop it. I need someone to say, “I’m so sorry that’s bothering you this much. It must be so overwhelming. It must be so hard to cope with this.” You could even ask me questions, like “What does it feel like? How much are you thinking about this? What helps you feel better?” I just need someone to validate my experience and sympathize, not tell me that I’m crazy or say my problems aren’t real. I’m aware these thoughts are crazy — that’s why I feel so alone and sad and scared. When you tell me my thoughts are crazy, it makes me feel even more like a freak. Sometimes, I just need someone to hold my hand and tell me I’m not alone.
She laughed and said that everyone has these thoughts "i didn't tell her about the REALLY fucked up thoughts i experience cuz i was kinda scared" and then she said it's the demon just say ur prayers and they'll go away Even though i kept on trying and trying to convince her that they're clearly not normal but she kept on refusing and it kinda sounded like she didn't want to admit and believe that her daughter has a mental illness which sucks
My symptoms are clear as day and they literally have disrupted every single thing in my life but I ask for help and they tell me to just change ,stop doing that,stop being weird,or they tell me it's in my head Im going crazy here and I don't know what to do.some one please if you have any advice id love to hear it Thank you.
