You could sit with the anxiety and use RPMS (I may or may not become schizophrenic, this may or may not be dangerous, I may or may not be able to tolerate this distress). Thrillers can naturally produce stress and adrenaline in the body, which also increases panic and anxious thoughts. It doesn't mean you should avoid thrillers and horror, but it's something to be away of. I notice myself watch horrible crime shows when I get really stressed and anxious, and it can produce a temporary high of adrenaline, but later make me panic even more.

@Anonymous Yeah I DEF stay away from true crime for the time being. It absolutely makes me anxious

I can relate to this as well. I used to love doing something before I had OCD once I was diagnosed I couldn’t even be around it. But with ERP I was able to conquer what was taken for me. The silly thing about OCD the attacks of things we love the most. But I am also a religious man and since I’ve been diagnosed, it has drawn me closer to God. I used to also enjoy watching thrillers and horror movies too. It could also be the Holy Spirit pulling you away from that. Just something to consider. Keep fighting don’t give up we got this.

@BMace But if that is something you do enjoy and you want that back in your life. I would recommend sitting with the uncomfortable feelings, the uncertainty and the anxiety. And overtime, it will fade away.

Hi! I’ve actually had a similar thing happen to me. In my case, I have gone my whole life eating meat. Never considered going vegetarian. But one day, my OCD decided to tell me that “everything I put in my mouth is dead” and after that, I went for months avoiding meat. I felt really bad bc I LOVE lots of foods with meat in them. It felt like I was leaving something out of my life that I didn’t want to give up. The way I fixed it was to remember the GOOD things it made me feel. So instead of thinking “wow there’s a dead thing in my mouth” I’d say “wow, my mom’s cooking is really good” or “wow, this is my favorite!” This might help you if you want to try sitting with your OCD triggers as opposed to giving up something you love. Instead of ruminating about the characters hearing things or losing control, think about the things you LIKE about thriller/horror. What abt it makes you happy? Little by little, it might help you get back into it while still being safe:) Another thing that might help is to just take a step back for a few days and see how your brain feels with a little break. After a while, you can try watching/reading it again. That way you’re not putting too much pressure on yourself. Hope this helps!
