It would be unethical for your mom to tell you what your sexuality is. She’s actually doing a REALLY great job here, both as just a loving parent and in terms of not giving your OCD what it wants. It wants reassurance in the form of 100% certainty and instead she’s allowed for all possibilities with unconditional love and understanding. The worries your OCD came up with in response to this are pretty typical for HOCD and actually they are your compulsive response (trying to “figure it out”, analyze, or prove/disprove with 100% certainty.) at the end of the day, these compulsions won’t leave you feeling more certain, they will make you less. You’ll find more holes to explore. And then you’ll feel the need to keep doing them to try to get more certainty and the cycle continues. Your mom seems really open to ideas, so I’d ask if you can see an OCD specialist. It could be a great educational experience for both of you.

yea i tried but she doesn’t actually think it’s ocd and she said she thinks that seeing a specialist might make it worse because she thinks i’m just gonna say”i have this and i have that and i do that” to everything. idk i’ve actually gotten a lot better. but yea i guess my concerns are just from my ocd trying to find something else to analyze and overthink. thank you for taking the time to type that out :)

i guess i just overthink and get scared about everything also. that’s not even with just my hocd just me in general. but like me thinking everytime my mom says something about LGBT, and when i say that i mean her bringing up a gay celebrity or anything like that, is her trying to get me to come out. that’s clearly (i think) not what she’s trying to do but i worry about everything but especially with my hocd

@kaysf I’d revisit the topic with her again. Explain that impulse to say “I have this and I have that and I do that” IS OCD. That’s why you do that. And a specialist can help you understand why and how to get better.
