I relate to that. Had the same thing happen to me too tonight, unfortunately. I think that's just the nature of the beast. I think in a lot of cases, the groinal response IS identical to arousal because they are the same response. Just one is unwanted and causes distress, whereas the other doesn't. That doesn't mean that we like it of course, but apparently bodies will react to anything sexually relevant, whether you like it or not. On top of that, anxiety and the "taboo" nature of the thoughts can apparently increase sensations of arousal, making them even more intense. But again, that doesn't mean you secretly like it, that's just your body being a body.

@Anonymous It can feel that way, yeah. The groinal response can be accompanied by excitement, which can make it feel enjoyable, and the actual physical sensations themselves can feel pleasurable too, despite how horrifying the thoughts are.

So with me I’ve had a constant loop of the thoughts of what if I’m a … your experience may be different to mine but I feel like I can’t focus on real life or anything in it because no matter what I put my time or effort into it’s like I’m lying to myself when I don’t want it to feel that way

@Fcukocd I don’t know if you also experience the whole lying to yourself thing like my mind is saying you don’t have ocd your lying even though I know I would do anything to feel connected and just normal in life

Yes stuff that makes me uncomfortable or not feel safe creates a gronial response and it messes with my head on am I into that ?? So you’re not alone and any tips on how people work through the shame or if it’s possible to make it happen less frequent or if we’re even in control of it would be lovely

Yes, daily! Sometimes I'm not even thinking or seeing my triggers or anything and I'll have them, very uncomfy. But I found acknowledging it's there and it's most likely not going anywhere then shifting my focus kinda works -- also while resisting the urge to try and "figure it out" or hyperfocus on it. MUCH easier said than done, I still struggle a whooole lot (which is why I'm considering interoceptive exposures), but I try to maintain a "not important" attitude with it.
