Does anyone know what this could be?

I don’t know if this is the right place to ask but my sister has really bad compulsions and at first i thought it was ocd but as it turns out the compulsions are the only thing she actually experiences (maybe she could be hiding it but i doubt it) Are there any other things this could be? I remember she had a compulsion and for some reason she wanted me to rewind the show we were watching and i thought i was helping so i refused and she got so mad and she started shouting saying it needed to be rewinded. She herself says she its thinks ocd but i was under the impression ocd is obsessive thoughts and compulsions

It sounds like it could fall into "just right" ocd maybe? Not sure if this is accurate, but I think that the obsession can be a more broad, looming anxiety, and so saying "It NEEDS to be rewinded" does indicate it may be a compulsion fueled by something. Do the compulsions cause her distress and anxiety? From the one example, it does sound like it. In this NOCD article about just right ocd, the standard obsession described as "' the unbearable feeling that something is off, incomplete, or 'not quite right.' --Even if there’s no actual danger, people with this subtype feel intense internal discomfort unless things are symmetrical, aligned, or done 'just right'"

Here are the example compulsions brought up in the same article: Repeating actions until they feel “right” (e.g., turning a light switch on/off) Rewriting or re-editing text repeatedly Reordering objects for symmetry or alignment Tapping, blinking, or moving a certain number of times Mentally replaying an interaction until it feels complete

@waitorwait. Yeah, It does seem to be causing her a lot of distress and anxiety. Thank you so much for this reply, this sounds exactly like what she is experiencing. I never get much time to speak about it, another thing is she hates her compulsions being brought up in a conversation and i wish she would speak to someone about it!

@dwestiny Dang, that is really hard! I do hope she can find some help, I know re-conceptualizing what OCD can look like is difficult initially. That's a tough barrier! Any way you can pass the information along without bringing attention to her compulsions seems like a good first step. Obviously, you know her reactions and boundaries so if this scenario just wouldn't work that's all good but I thought I'd share: In your shoes, I would share a video or just the fact that there are subtypes of OCD, without specifically mentioning her compulsions. I think especially if the video is about Just Right OCD, it gives her room to hopefully have the insight and make the connection herself eventually. What made me consider/accept OCD was someone I know (who has diagnosed OCD) told me "your thoughts sound just like mine" about something I NEVER would have thought was an OCD thought pattern. But it opened up the possibility that OCD wasn't what I thought it was. I had heard some things prior that still hadn't been enough to make me explore it as a possibility for myself. I hope with time she is able to get help!!!! Best of luck to you, and your sister!
