Hi guys just reading your post about rabies. I was an animal humane officer for 10 years. The odds of you getting bit by a bat or contracting rabies from an animal is highly unlikely. Hope this helps.

I get the rabies fear, i haven't seen a bat in 3 years and I have recently panicked over a bat biting me. I have some stray dogs that show up frequently where I live and my OCD is constantly freaking out about getting bit by one and I usually won't go in my yard or check the mail without pepper spray. They probably have shots but im worries they dont, or just general injury from a dog bite.

Animals could be carriers for years and not show symptoms. People aren’t built that way, so we are not carriers of rabies. You would show symptoms quickly.

It’s usually 10 days in a rapid animal to show signs that they have rabies. So the quarantine time of the animal. if they bit somebody is 10 days.

It could be 5 to 10 days all the way up to a year. It’s hard to tell.

To be honest with you, I can’t really say if the scratched area would tingle or itch. Or if the symptoms are faster if the infected area was closer to the brain. That would be something a doctor could tell you. It would be best to seek medical attention.

I know you’re having a hard time with this. It’s very rare for someone to get bit by a bat.

When I first started that type of work. They injected me with dead rabies virus to pre-expose me just in case I got bit. They did it 4 times. Now if I turn into a vampire that be kind of cool, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.
