1st things 1st, take a few seconds to relax your breathing. 4 seconds in 6 seconds out. 2nd, mentally acknowledge that this is an ocd event/episode and look at it as an opportunity to improve as scary as it may seem. 3rd and this is the hardest part. Try to accept the uncertainty that is worrying you the most, just for a second and then go on with your day/life. The goal isnt to ignore what happened, its to reframe it in your mind. The reframing might go from something like this "What if I ate some fly throwup etc. oh my gosh what do I do?" To the more contructive "I might have just eaten some fly throwup by accident but im going to continue on with my day anyway" The power behind that reframing is to try to accept what just happened without acting on any compulsions or stressing too much but again were not ignoring, were acknowledging and then moveing on with our lives. And then after some time passes ONLY if there is a measurable, reacurring symptom persisting we go see a doctor. Because if we have persisting symptoms after the event (even when your minds off it) then its time to do the necessity of going to see your doctor and filling them in just to be safe. But again thats only if you have persistent symptoms afterwards. So all together its about objectively reframing the event in your mind so that you can determine what (if any) necessites should executed (like washing your hands after using the bathroom) and then doing the necessity only and not going over board into insanity/compulsion terittory. So for you, try to accept what just happened, and the uncertainty that comes with it, and then continue living your life. And know that no matter how much you think about it you cant solve anything that doesnt need solving and any symptoms that may show wont be for a while anyway so either way you gotta let some time pass. And who knows maybe after a couple weeks you wont be so bothered by the whole thing and youll move past it, if not then you keep going until theres a neccesity or you move on from it.
