Shout out to EVERYONE on this thread for having an empathic conversation without giving reassurance

Try to avoid looking for reassurance and answers from people as you’re telling your brain that your OCD thoughts and worries are important enough to seek reassurance when really they’re not

please though, just once. Is it normal? I promise I won’t ask for anything after this

@amyyyy Unfortunately Soph is right. You’re going to feel good if we reassure you, but I promise you will ask more after this if we give it to you because OCD will demand it and become stronger, and that would do you a disservice. Instead, we can give you a therapeutic tool and tell you to lean into the anxiety by saying “maybe this means something or maybe it doesn’t, oh well, I’m going to go about my day now.” It’s so hard but it’s what you need to do to get on the road to recovery.

@nikol I really don’t think I’m strong enough for this :(

@amyyyy You are. You’re stronger than you think! Don’t feed the monster, you are in control! The less you give attention to changing and analyzing and reassuring the thought, the more it will die down

@nikol I will try to stay in control. I’m just really struggling right now especially because of being in lockdown.. i have no distractions. All I do is cry in my room, silently suffering as my parents don’t even know about how I’m feeling and attempt to revise for my A levels next year

@amyyyy Im so sorry to hear you are struggling. We are all here for you! Can you get out of your room and try getting fresh air? Or some sort of guided meditation on YouTube to help you feel a bit more relaxed? Some OCD resources that help me when my thoughts are out of control / OCD stories podcast & Ali Greymonds YouTube videos

Meditation is sooo sooo good. Like I always have thoughts racing every second of the day but with meditation everything feels so much more calm and I can go on with my day feeling very little anxiety and it is crazy how much it has helped. I always wake up with my heart beating super fast and with a lump in my throat but I do mediation as soon as I get up... it’s about 30 minutes (it’s for sleep but I just do it in the mornings) and it has helped tremendously

Thank you very much for the advice:) Does it help with your intrusive thoughts?

@amyyyy I feel like it’s definitely made me calmer when I get them and I have tried just forgetting about the thoughts and if one catches my eye I just breathe and try my hardest to let it go even if it’s really hard. Because I don’t wanna get them the importance they don’t deserve. I think you should try it and see how it goes. I watch this video https://youtu.be/y8LIbeKQ60U

Thanks for the recommendations:) I listen to OCD pidcasts every night before I go to bed. And I’ve been getting fresh air everyday as I’m going on runs to try and keep fit. Exercise is my only vice at them moment! I will try meditation but i’m not sure how it will go as I’m a very fidgety person and not good at relaxing

I was scared of meditation for so long but the second I tried it my life changed! The thoughts didn’t matter in my meditation and that translAted into my life! There’s guided meditation on this app called headspace or you could try doing it on your own! I use it as prayer and I listen to God and breathe with the trees! When the thoughts come because they will, I just breathe and continue what I was doing! I don’t ruminate or worry Because it’s just a thought! You got thisss
