I think what you do is a form of perfectionism. And the reflex pursue things to the end. Maybe you should train your brain to cut off things. And I mean that in every aspect: Interrupt what you are doing, change to other things. Train to cut off things shortly before they are finished. Think the training could help your brain cut of things no matter if they're real or only thoughts.

That's a pretty interesting idea. I'm also autistic which could be related to that, I struggle VERY much to cut off while I'm doing anything until it's finished, unless I get really bored.

Yes I already thought so. If you are having problems to cut off doing anything it is no wonder that this is also the case when you are ruminating. But I think this is highly trainable. Just cut off the YouTube video 20 seconds before it ends and so on. But it will make you cringe in the beginning.
