@Pure_O_Warrior what you’re saying is right but can be damaging for people struggling with sexual orientation ocd. Their “fear” isn’t a direct result of societal confitioning, although it could be. It’s the fact that they constantly obsess over their sexual orientation. It’s just like pure o except the content revolves around their sexuality. The solution isn’t for them to “accept their true selves” or enjoy their “homosexual feelings” the solution is CBT/ERP/ACT therapy. The solution is also to remember that it’s OCD. The content of whether they’re gay or bi or not doesn’t matter because what, it’s OCD.

internalized homophobia is basically enjoying the thoughts, but knowing that it’s wrong. i’m hocd, we dread the thoughts and even count them as annoying tbh

@Pure_O_Warrior it's not wrong. it's that people turn societal homophobic stereotypes into themselves making them think they are wrong to be who they are. also please dont say people with hocd are afraid to be who they really are, it's very unhelpful. it's totally okay to have your own opinions but it doesnt help anyone with hocd except bring them anxiety. :)

@Pure_O_Warrior What is your OCD type?

@Pure_O_Warrior excuse me, their homosexual feelings come NATURALLY but they don’t want to accept it. meanwhile us with hocd, they slipped into our minds, saying things like ‘if you do this you’re gay, if you dress like you’re gay, blah blah blah.’ someone with internalized homophobia would feel COMFORT AND PLEASURE from these thoughts, meanwhile we don’t. someone with internalized homophobia would have ANXIETY ABOUT COMING OUT AND HOW THEY WOULD B PERCEIVED BY THE WORLD AND WHETHER THEY WILL BE ACCEPTED OR NOT. us with hocd have anxiety BECAUSE OF THE THOUGHTS WE’RE HAVING ABOUT THE SAME SEX. imagine going to a public space and your mind telling you that you want to bang every same sex person, or telling you that you like them when you have no sexual/romantic attraction to them. what you said about people with hocd being afraid of who they are.. that’s extremely triggering and you may have sent a couple of people into a downward spiral. think twice about your choice of words. hocd is a serious thing and it makes people depressed and have suicidal tendencies. i’m speaking this by experience and i’ve thought about taking my own life because of this. this isn’t something to take lightly.

@Pure_O_Warrior people with hocd have anxiety over their feelings because it's a FEAR and OBESSION rather than a want. if you're on this forum im assuming you have ocd so it's like pedophilia ocd. paedophiles like thoughts about children. people with pocd are scared of them. maybe dont comment on these kind of things telling people how they feel next time if possible :)

@Pure_O_Warrior yeah, i think you must be bored. i dont understand why you're making these points. it doesnt sound like you have hocd, or if you have had it, dont understand/remember what its like. no one said being gay was like being a pedophile, we said that the experiences the ocd sufferers feel are similar. it's not about public eye. in fact, it's nothing to do with it. that's one of the key differences between hocd and actually being gay in the closet, people with hocd (in the most part, obviously there are excpetions) dont primarily worry about what the public will think of them, more that its not what they believe they are for themselves. its fine having your own opinions on the topic, but perhaps take them to something like quora, as some things said appear to diminish even the existence of hocd for some people. it's a little insensitive to peoples who's lives are controlled by unwanted thoughts about their sexuality. it makes it seem insignificant to people who are battling their own minds every single day when some people have 'opinions' that question/belittle the already endless cycle of people doing that to themselves. people haven't recovered for the same reason people haven't recovered from pocd and harm ocd. ocd isn't a 'curable' disease. you can treat it. just next time, maybe think a little more about where you post these comments as they can bring great distress, self hatred and feelings of more intense denial onto themselves. as someone whose fallen into a state of depression from hocd and has hurt themselves and had thoughts of killing themselves because of it, i personally, not necessarily speaking for everyone, find it very triggering when people come on here and imply that hocd could potentially just not be a thing at all. just keep this in mind in the future. have a good day x

@caz :) Hi caz- thank you for sharing your insight and experiences. I have also suffered from states of depression. Also had self harm/suicidal OCD and it is truly a terrible place to be (when going through that I said ‘I wish the gay ones would come back cause at least o know they’re not true’ jokes on me) - but you’re explanation helped cause I saw this video that said “my mind with internal homophobia - you’re not gay” and then it said “my heart - I’m a lesbian” and I just naturally freaked out thinking I don’t suffer HOCD and it’s just internal homophobia
