I struggle with this a lot! I just do my best not to sanitize the floor but I have used bleach on the floor before and had to sit there watching it then rinsing it to try and keep them safe. Do your cats jump on counters? Mine just stay on the floor or couches

My cat jumps on the coffee table. And the kitchen table.

@LadyIelaedoni Oh that's tough. I actually dont sanitize tables oddly enough. I find I dont use them much. The kitchen counters get a lot of spray down but the tables are probably a place my cats go but I also dont really use them so I dont think much about them. I dont want to enable you but i also dont know what your house is like. Me and my husband work from home and dont go anywhere really so I dont have to worry much about sanitizing unless we've brought in something from outside. If you dont have people coming in and out, my advice would be not to sanitize and face your fear. If you do have people coming in and out or front line workers in the house, can you use cloth table cloths and wash them as opposed to sanitizing? Probably better for the kitties.

My husband works outside the house and we have to go to a laundromat to do our laundry.

Oiii as a contamination ocd person, I cant imagine that struggle. What I can say is I'm so proud of you holding it together like that. The only advice I can give in those scenarios is this webinar I've found really helpful. It really drives home the point that, for contamination ocd in the pandemic, we should follow the cdc guidelines and nothing more. Nowhere in the cdc guidelines does it say sanitize tables multiple times a day. If you have a front line worker in the house, sanitize HIGH TOUCH surfaces once a day and it should take no more than a couple of minutes. This of course is super hard to do but it might be something to work towards. Here's the link to the webinar. Its log but really worth it! https://youtu.be/zoXXRRC3opk

And maybe you can sanitize at a time when you can watch yours cats and make sure they dont jump on the surface. It's also always a good idea to rinse the sanitized area afterwards. Every sanitizer says that in their directions

@catattak I used to get lucky that she was asleep when I would sanitize. Lately, she gets so curious when I sanitize the coffee table and wants to jump on it.

@LadyIelaedoni I'd say watch the webinar and ask yourself if the coffee table reeeeeaaallly needs to be sanitized. Again I dont know your household but theres a strong chance it's your ocd telling you to sanitize. It's hard with covid 19 because we really do have to make sure we are putting safety first, but ask yourself if it's necessary or if its ocd. I'm not one to yall because I sanitized my kitchen island after prepping a salad on it today....but we have to work towards these things.... even reflecting one what's compelling you to sanitize will be a step towards healing.
