You definitely aren’t alone in having these thoughts. But things cannot get better if you end them. And it IS possible to get better. I know you said earlier that therapy wasn’t an option for you, but what have you tried so far? Have you done any ERP on your own?

Use that script as erp! You write out your worst fears like you just did and reread it while doing no compulsions. just sit with it until your anxiety goes down. Its very hard but you just did one of the hardest parts (writing your fear).

Love the script idea!! Make sure to include lots of details though, like an actual story. Example: “I thought it was just ocd, but turns out I cannot stop thinking about (insert child’s name) and I feel like I may actually be feeling an attraction. I walked into the kitchen and my mom gasps, she heard me mumble under my breath that I wish my thoughts would go away. “What thoughts?” She asks, and I’m too guilty to not admit what it was. I tell her I think I’m attracted to (child’s name) and instead of her understanding and feeling bad for me, she says she’s disgusted and sends me to my room. I hear her pick up the phone and call (family member). They talk about me being a pedophile and they’re afraid I’ll hurt someone. Suddenly, it’s like everyone knows! My entire family, my friends. I’m no longer allowed to be around children in the family so I’m forced to move out. I am being shunned. It’s too late now, but now I have to live with the consequences of my thoughts. Everyone hates me.”

@BrainH20 If that made you anxious then it’s a good script for you! Use it.

@ducklingskies I’m giving you an example of how to write out your worst nightmare aka script which is a type of erp you can do. Erp is purposefully making yourself anxious, not compulsing, and just letting the anxiety rise and fall naturally. After you practice a few times you’ll feel so much better!

So this is an example of ERP. With ocd we have a tendency to avoid our fears and our thoughts, but that avoidance just makes things worse. So treatment for ocd involves facing your fears head on. One example of this is creating a loop tape where you say your fears. When it causes anxiety instead of fighting it you sit with it and avoid compulsions. What happens is it’ll be anxiety inducing for a while, but the more you do it the more you’ll learn to cope with anxiety. The more exposures you do, the more you’ll learn to be able to live your life even with the thoughts. It makes you more anxious at first, but after a while of sticking with it, it takes power away from the thoughts.
